Show rutes on map

Hi,

I consider to buy a garmin gpdmap 66, but have one important question before i will buy it, hope you can help :-)

I training sleddogs Wolf, mostly in the forests in Denmark,

Right now I'm using my garmin edge 1000 as gps when i drive my dogs, i use my edge because, I'm only allowed to drive on some specific roads, not all roads, so i have make a "route" with all the roads i must be on marked up, and on my edge i can under "routes" enable that the route is "ALWAYS SHOWED ON MAP".

I don't eant to follow the rute, i just use the function to show the rute on the map when i drive, so i know where i must drive...

I can't read anywhere that a gpsmap 66 can do that too,

Anyone there can tell me, can i gpsmap 66 show a rute on the map under a activity, and you don't have to follow the rute, like the edge series can???

  • DOUBLE POST.

No, the GPSMAP 66 does not show always inactive routes. But it will show tracks!

  • If I understand you correctly. You want to display multiple tracks on the map without the need to follow them or navigate them.
If so, then the answer is yes. I have a 66S. From main menu go into saved tracks. (Assuming you have copied the ones you want to your device) Pick a track. Open it. Hit "Menu" button and you have the option to "Show on map" and also change the colour.
I use this feature a lot when exploring somewhere new. I put in alternative tracks and escape routes.

In a related topic: (FYI) I have the Garmin Epix watch which also has this feature. I upgraded to the Fenix 5X and found that it will NOT allow you to display multiple tracks. So I returned it and have stuck with the Epix.   Hoping that Garmin will add this capability to the Fenix 6 at some stage so I can upgrade my Epix.

  • Exactly, i think it is that function i need, thank you.

I have a fenix 5x, and that doesn't have that function, but i almost never use the map on my watch :-)
