Japan-bought 66i refuses to see software updates

Experienced plenty of bugs during the first hike with my new 66i (resuming expedition mode freezing the device, connecting via USB to Mac freezing the device, Active route dropped after resuming from Expedition mode) and decided to search for software updates.

To my surprise there is an update 6.30, yet Garmin Express, Garmin Connect Web and Garmin WebUpdater all insist that 4.30 is the latest firmware.

Any ideas how to force the thing to update?

Your Japan Model does not use the same 6.30 firmware you are referring to.

Connect your 66i to your computer, find the 'GarminDevice.xml' file and open it in notepad.

In the first couple lines you will find something similar to "<Model><PartNumber>006-Bxxxx-00</PartNumber>"

What digits are in "xxxx" from above?

That was my suspicion too, after GCD update was ignored as well. I was unable to find a changelog for 66iJ (this is how the bootup screen refers to the device) though.

The digits from part number are "3658".

Aside, there are also a bunch of apparently crash dumps with error code being ERR_RTL_TRAP in `system.xml`.

There have been no published updates for that device at this time.
