Use Basecamp with topo maps in PC (fast) instead of direct access to connected device (slow)

I use Basecamp in Windows PC all the time, the map rendering is very slow because I have to have my Garmin 66i connected to be able to use my maps. The maps I use are the french IGN 25000 v5 maps, essentially all of France in 25000 scale.
The question is, CAN I INSTALL THESE MAPS IN MY PC TO GAIN SPEED WHEN I AM IN FRON OF PC PLANNING MY ADVENTURES?

Yes, you can get superb street and topo maps from here: https://alternativaslibres.org/en/downloads.php#Europe I've used and donated to this site for 3-4 years now in order to get maps for customers who for example ride from Morocco to Greece. The maps install in to BaseCamp and the older MapSource just fine. Of course the map can also be sent to the GPS unit as well via the above programmes.
