Can't access maps?

Just purchased a Garmin 66i and having multiple issues. One of the main ones being that I can't access maps. I'm so confused. I thought this could be used as a GPS unit...but there is no map I can pull up to see my current location. I am unable to hit the "map" icon to view my location/map. Isn't that a basic gps function? It wants me to go into waypoints or routes to show me a map, and those are so poor I find it hard to believe they're the correct maps.

I went into set up and hit "configure" the three map options and nothing happened. Each one is lit up to indicate it should be on the device. I have an inreach subscription, but I bought this unit because it was touted as a complete gps as well- no inreach subscription needed. The point is to NOT have to use my phone.

Where are you? An Australian / NZ unit will have Garmin TopoActive installed (an Aussie review here) as standard.

"Unable to hit map icon." - What does this even mean? Select 'Map' icon and press enter to see map page.

Where are you located and which maps are installed on your device?

Have you already been outside and got a gps fix?

Map Settings
From the map, select MENU, and select Map Setup. Configure Maps: Enables or disables the maps currently loaded on the device.

I would love to...except I can't. This is brand new out of the box. When I hit "map" icon, the only thing that pops is "configure maps". That's it. Not an actual map. I've made sure that all the maps are configured, but is there an extra step I am missing?

I'm in the USA. Yes, I have checked to make sure that the maps are enabled. The map icon keeps bringing me back to the "configure map" screen. But does NOT allow me to actually see map on the device.

Sounds like you are in the Setup Menu. The Map page icon and Map Setup icon are identical.

I believe the Map,page icon is in the page ribbon by default, so just press page enough times to get to the map screen.
