66i will not charge.

Hi. I just purchased gpsmaps66i. I immediately attempted to charge the unit with the supplied cable and it would not charge. The battery indicator on the unit would not even show that it was plugged in. I have tried all different combinations of charging. Computer/ wall/ iOS/windows/. I have used an iPhone USB wall adapter and a Garmin wall plug. Nothing charges the unit. I register the unit with Garmin and inReach. Nothing I do will allow me to charge the unit. Suggestions?

  • Try a different USB cable. If a new cable and multiple sources all fail to charge the battery, it is likely a hardware failure with the GPSMAP 66i and you will need to contact Garmin support immediately.

    My ~1 yo 66i started exhibiting the same symptoms while on a backpacking trip in the Wallowas. I was able to charge it normally from a battery pack after about 3 days of backcountry travel however when I tried to charge again after 7 days in the backcountry from the same battery pack, it would not charge. After return to "civilization," no combination of cables or USB power adaptors would charge the unit. Garmin support was very helpful and replaced the failed unit. Almost certainly a H/W failure.
