Transfer courses to GPSMap 66i

Garmin Connect not compatible with Garmin GPSMap 66i?  Cannot transfer courses from Connect to 66i.  What is the compatibility issue, and when will this feature be available?

  • Haven’t tried this lately, but it used to work using the “import course” option from explore.garmin.com. Is this how you are doing it?

  • I can transfer the course to Garmin Explorer and to Garmin Connect, I just cannot transfer from either of those to the GPSmap 66i. Garmin Connect says the 66i is not a compatible device. I don't know why that would be since most other Garmin devices are compatible.

  • Import the course (on the explore.garmin.com web site). Be sure to import it into a collection that will be sync’d to the device (or add it to such a collection after you import). Then sync the device via the Explore mobile app.

Garmin Connect Mobile is not involved. Nor do you need to explicitly import the course into the Explore app.

  • I will give that a try again but my previous sync said that it was complete, but the course did not appear on the 66i. But that may be a problem with the 66i and not the process as the Routes submenu does not appear on my 66i under Find or Route Planning.

  • The menu option will not appear on the device unless at least one route exists on the device. Be sure you are importing into a collection that will sync to the device. Putting it in the wrong collection (or no collection at all - just the library) is the usual reason that things fail to appear after a sync.

  • Thanks for the tip!!  The manual says nothing about requiring a route for the submenu to appear.  All of my other recorded activities are tracks, so never had an issue there.  I'll report back after syncing again.

  • I did use Import feature on Explore website.  It worked after much trial and error.  Put into proper collection and did selective sync.  It would certainly help if Garmin had more comprehensive documentation!  Hours spent on website and apps and on 66i to enable various features is not helpful.  I spent more hours on the logistics than I will on the hike.  And I'm uncertain as to why the 66i would be incompatible with Garmin Connect when my Edge 1030 is compatible for course transfer.  Thanks for all your help and advice!!!

  • I just spent a ton of time importing .gpx files as routes (originally from Navionics) onto the Garmin Explore website. I would now like to import them onto my brand spanking new high dollar 66i. I'm having trouble interpreting some of the things on this thread. Simply put: how do I get these routes onto my 66i? Also, I'm on a Mac, if that makes any difference.

  • I transfer GPX files all the time to my 66i so that I can follow them while out trekking

I use QMapShack, basically to do all my tracks, either cleaning them up from previously downloaded files or making them my self, When the 66i is plugged in to my computer QMapShack 'sees' it and I can just just transfer the GPX tract to it, It's simple and quick

Although I'm running Linux QMapshack runs on Macs and Windows

Hope this is what you are looking for and that it helps
