Save configuration?

Triggered by the Wikiloc/Komoot thread I am looking for how to save my configuration in case I have to reset my unit, so I don't have to configure everything again by hand. How can I do that? Until now I did not know that this is even possible....Thanks in advance!

Boris

  • Hi Boris, yes, saving your setup is pretty easy.  In the GPS > Garmin folder is a folder called Profiles.  In there are 8 factory set Profiles such as Boat.gpf, Climb.gpf, Fish.gpf etc.  Simply save these to your computer.  Additional Profiles can be made as well.

When restoring a profile to a GPS it won't update the current Profile in use so it's necessary to change to another one then load the desired one with your settings.

This Profile system has been in use since 2010 when the 62s and similar models were introduced.  One of my business customers has over 200 of the 62/64 series so I load the custom Profile that he wants for the employees.

The .gpf file can be opened as a text file so it's easy to see the many settings  - the Hunt file is attached for example.

It's a pity Garmin did not make a Profile Editor so that the GPS could be configured from the computer rather than on the device.

  • Thank you Tony,

I was wondering where I could find the Codes and Value pair dictionary.

I can change it manually and identify each by trail and error method but thought someone already did this . ( I dont use all the features and would like to minimize stuff and simplify the clutter)

  • Sorry, that's well beyond me - I know nothing about codes or value pairs.

  • pitty that this is not published in any way.
