Activation InReach

Hi

happy new 66i owner as from today

I've seen the different plans concerning the InReach activations, but my question is :, It seems that you can only activate the yearly fee and pay straight away a month's fee (freedom plan)

Is there is no way to pay the annual fee, and then start a months fee later?

An example I am not going to use the 66i before the end of March, so I would like the freedom plane to start then, but don't mind paying the annual fee now

Thanks

Trevor

  • I don’t think so. Reading the FAQ’s carefully, it appears that you might be able to defer both the annual fee and the first month’s advance fee by signing up and NOT activating the device until you are ready. Or just defer signing up until you are ready. I’ve never tried the sign up but don’t activate thing, so I might be reading too much into the FAQ.

All of that said, be sure you allow at least a few business days’ lead time between (re)activation and the start of your trip. Just in case there are problems of some kind.

  • Hi Trevor, with the GPSMAP 66i you can start using the device and create an Explore account without activating the inReach subscription for the GPSMAP 66i. Then, when you're ready to start your subscription, you can "Activate" the GPSMAP 66i. To do this, you would go to explore.garmin.com and select the option to "Create New Account," then select the "Use Explore With . . . " option. This will prompt you to register the device with Garmin Connect or sign in to your account if you've already registered the device with Garmin Connect. Keep in mind that the inReach messaging and tracking will not be activated until you actually sign up and pay for a subscription plan but will allow you to use the device and get familiar with the Explore Website.
