Waypoints moved around to different collections?

Has anyone else experienced an issue with waypoint collections where the waypoints will move out of a specific collection and all end up in the default 66i collection?

I had 150 or so waypoints in a collection that I created, and then one day they had all been moved into the 66i collection apart from a couple of the most recent ones.

I have my suspicions that this has something to do with the fact that the 66i doesn't support collections (for some reason... Garmin??) and so all waypoints from all synced collections just show up in one giant list.

Anyone else see weird things like this?

  • I have not seen anything like this.

AFAIK, none of the iR devices, including the 66i, expose collections on the device itself. Collections are abstractions which only exist on the web site and in the Explore app. As far as the devices themselves are concerned, there is just one bucket for each type of data (waypoints, routes, whatever).

The things that land on the device are things that are in the active collection for the device OR in any collection that is flagged as sync-ing TO the device. You control this on the Plans & Devices tab at explore.garmin.com or on the Devices tab in the Explore app.

I do not believe that items which are added to the device as a result of a sync (from a collection other than the active collection) should end up in the active collection. But they do end up on the device. I just tried this to be sure.

For example, suppose the active collection is "66i". You have another collection, "A" which is set up to sync to the device. You create a waypoint in "A". You sync. The waypoint remains in "A", but also now shows up on the device. It does not show up in the active collection because it was not created on the device. Even if you edit it on the device, it does not move to the active collection. Note that I created the waypoint in the Explore app, not on the web. YMMV.

That was the only scenario which I could imagine that would have a result similar to what you report. The only other thing that comes to mind is that "large" collections may not sync correctly. If the Explore app (at least) thinks the collection might be too large, it will show a warning triangle with the collection on the device details page for the 66i. In the app, Devices tab, then tap the 66i in the list.

Are there any other details you might share?
