TopoActive Americas North have disappeared only to be replaced by City Navigator NT

Until earlier today, my TopoActive Americas North map has been intact. A few hours ago, I inserted a City Navigator NT microSd card purchased a week or so ago from Garmin. It is the 2020 full coverage edition. With the card inserted, the NT map works fine. However, when I then click on the topo map, the NT map appears but not the topo. When I remove the NT card, and then click on the topo, the NT map continues to show. I have updated the software and the maps, and rebooted a number of times, but the problem continues. I can't imagine that I deleted the topo map but suppose anything is possible. At this point, I haven't a clue how to recover the topo maps. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks for reading this.

  • Install your microSD card into your GPSMAP 66i and power the unit on.

Open Setup > Maps > Configure Maps on your GPSMAP 66i.

Select each map, one at a time, and while selected, press (Menu) > Show Map Information.

Record this information for each map in the list.

Share this information with us to help us understand exactly which maps are installed.

If a map were removed, it would not be available in this menu, so if the Topo map you have is displayed in this menu, it is installed.

I am hoping you can perform the above task to help us understand which maps are installed, then we can help you further.

BTW, GPSrChive.com > GPSMAP 66 > Setup > Maps > Configure Maps shows the Garmin Map display hierarchy, and City Navigator is (always) at the top, which means it always displays over any other maps also enabled (except for transparent maps).

    Thanks for the note, atlas_cached

The maps on my GPS 66i are as follows and in this order:

    Worldwide DEM Basemap, NR

    TopoActive Americas, North 2019.10

CN North America NT 2020.20 ALL

    TopoActive Americas, Central 2019.10

When I clicked on Menu and then Map Information, a great deal of information regarding "all rights reserved" appeared. Do you want that information as well?

    Thanks for helping.

Although I listed in order the maps that are on the list, I remain unable to access the TopoActive Americas, North map. As before, when clicking on it, no topo information is shown, even if this is the only map enabled. Conversely, I can enable all, but still CN NT is all that appears.

Again, thank you to all for your kindness.

  • I don’t remember which states are covered by the north section. Where approximately are you located?

twolpert, I am in Illinois. It is so frustrating to see the map listed on my unit, but only to have Base Map and CN NT working. Without topo maps, the unit is of very limited use to me. I keep thinking that perhaps I inadvertently copied City Navigator to the unit and it corrupted the TopoActive file. I have not other ideas. In any case, thanks for the question.

I meant to say that I have no other ideas.

  • Outside of a call to tech support, my only other suggestion is to try turning on BOTH TopoActive regions.

I once again tried turning on both, but the result was the same. I have greatly appreciated your suggestions and those of others. When I get a chance, I will call support and report back after the conversation. Agains, thanks to all.

This afternoon, I spoke with a Garmin Support specialist. He was terrific, but the problem could not be solved. I will return this unit and obtain a replacement. Thanks for the great support from members of this forum.

  • What 'Topo information' were you unable to see on your GPSr with TopoActive enabled?
