Moved from the Delorme InReach Explorer to 66i, features I can't find...

Just got the 66i and here are a couple of tasks I can't seem to locate, maybe the feature is no present in the 66i?

Download weather updates over Sat (seems to only allow via WiFi, kind of pointless when in the middle of nowhere and have no WiFi)
Status on tracking data sent (how many points have been sent since tracking was enabled)

Am I just missing where this information or options are? Also, if I have a temp sensor, is that information logged with the GPS info too? Can't seem to find anything about that.

We are working diligently to get the feature implemented. When it is ready we will release it in a software update.

InReach weather updates are not implemented on the 66i. Hopefully in a later f/w release.

Several of the newer iR devices lack points sent statistics. Seems to be the direction Garmin is headed. Would not expect this to change.

AFAIK, nothing from external sensors is sent via Iridium. It might be logged with the “activity” data as part of the 66 functionality. Best bet would be to record an activity, let GCM sync it, and see what you get. Let us know!

And what about sync/use contacts, use via Garmin wearable remote functionality? A lot of things are still missing

Hope they add the weather updates in a future F/W for sure. Haven't purchased a temp sensor yet, but thinking about it. Going this weekend to Yosemite so will be breaking it all in for a couple of days in the backcountry.

Wait... you can't get weather updates? I can't believe that! I "upgraded" from the InReach Mini to this thing and in terms of InReach features this is several steps backwards. What are they thinking? *facepalm*

I agree on the weather, silly as that was a really nice feature on the older units.

Got a temp sensor. From what I can tell it does appear temp is logged in the GPX file. Can't confirm yet as any GPX viewer I have used does not support temp data. The one I did find that says it does, is crashing on Windows 10.

The GPX file does record Temperature in the track file and you can view the data in Garmin BaseCamp by looking at the Track Properties.

My quick sample track while paired with a temp sensor.

You can also view this data in Garmin Connect if you import your activity/track into your account.

Hi. Thanks for the confirmation that Garmin is working on Weather Forecasts via InReach on the 66i. This is a very important feature.

Thanks for the confirmation that you are working on it. It's nice to hear from the horse's mouth. Whilst I do appreciate that, weather has always been an integral feature of InReach devices, so might I suggest that the 66i was not actually ready for launch until it was implemented? I don't understand why companies, and particularly Garmin, just release products to stick to some sort of release timeline when the product isn't ready to ship. You wouldn't sell a car if you hadn't designed the wheels yet, so stop releasing products with features missing!!

A recent and widely shared post on a well-known website spoke to this exact issue, directly targeted at Garmin just a few weeks ago. This is another classic example of what that guy was talking about.

Clearly it was "mostly ready" and someone somewhere made the call to ship it without critical features like weather and a simple messaging contact feature in place. Presumably simply to hit some sort of quarterly sales goal or release date target. Please stop this ridiculous practice. As the article stated, Garmin is its own worst enemy.
