Wind speed doesn’t show when IPhone is locked

I have the app open on my iPhone 6s. The wind is showing on my Z82. When the iPhone self locks after a set period of time wind stops showing. It doesn’t make sense that I would need to have the display always on , on the iPhone, as this would drain the phone battery more quickly. Is there a setting to resolve this problem?

The Garmin Golf app must have permissions enabled to run in the background through your smartphone settings app.

You would also need location permissions set to always for the Garmin Golf app.

That’s pretty useless if I need to have the screen on my phone lit for 4+ hours, which will kill the phone battery long before that.

Hi Rob,

I have the phone app running in the background with the phone locked in my pocket and the z82 won’t display wind unless I take the phone out my pocket unlock it and open the app.
It used to work with the app running in the background in my pocket but it doesn’t anymore.
Do you know how to fix this?

Also keep the phone within bluetooth range of the Z82, if you leave the phone in the cart it could potentially disconnect once you step away 10-15ft. Bluetooth signal in general is weakened outdoors compared to indoors, due to there being a lack of enclosed walls.

It makes no sense that you have to be within 10 -15' of your phone, or in this case your golf cart to use this feature. Most golfer walk over 15' to their ball to site their distance. Is there a way to use a Fenix Watch to solve this issue?

You would need to keep your phone and the Z82 within range of each other throughout the round with the Golf app running on the phone to update the weather throughout the round.

The fenix series of devices work in the same manner regarding connected features that require data from a mobile device to provide up to date, and accurate weather information.

When outdoors, Bluetooth signal connections are typically less in distance compared to indoors connections, because there are typically no confined structures for the signal to bounce off of....just to reiterate the distance explained in the previous response.
