Wrong distances for s70

Hi

For the last 6 or so weeks the distances reported on some of the holes are way out some are 60-70 yards out. It's not on every hole but at least two per course I've played. It seems to be on every course I've played recently as well.

Wath

Bondhay

Birleywood

Prestbury

Mottram

Karsten lakes

To name a few.

Also the shot tracking is all over the place.

The watch had become useless has I'm using to score everything as it can no longer be trusted. My friend uses a *** scope watch and his is 100% accurate and his was a fraction of the price.

  • +1 as I noticed something similar with the Garmin Golf App reporting "Ghost" shots, some indeed outside of the hole itself, some close to the actual physical shot (like about 20 Yards away).

Was so far simply deleting those "Ghost" shots, thinking it was my mistake, probably having operated the watch improperly.
But now I will pay more attention to it - thanks for reporting!

One comment: once edited (Ghost shot deleted), the overall distance were however correct - will check that too.

  • Had the "Ghost shot" twice last round and I think they are simply wrong detection.
I've edited (deleted) the Ghost shot and the distance are looking OK overall.

  • Looking at the graphics of each hole exampled showing your concern, the shots you are seeing appear to be practice swings or other movements around the hole that are resulting in mishits being recorded.

Practice swings are going to be one of the biggest reasons the shot locations shown in your pictures can occur and other movements similar enough to a swing where movement may result in the watch registering an unintended shot.

The info outlined below is recommended for consistently recording shots with the Autoshot feature on your watch:

    • Ensure you are wearing your watch on the lead wrist while golfing (left hand if using right-handed clubs...or right hand if using left-handed clubs).
    • Confirm the proper wrist is set on your watch by opening Settings > User Profile > Wrist > Confirm "left" or "right" is set for the lead wrist the watch is being worn on during the round. *The S70 uses a combination of the accelerometer and gyroscope sensors, in-conjunction with the wrist setting being correct, to properly assess the angle of your watch on the wrist when your arms move to take a golf swing. The impact of the club face hitting the ball also is passed through your lead wrist to help the Autoshot feature to work in detecting full shot swings.
    • The fit of the watch band is also important, where the watch should be tight enough on the wrist to where it does not move at all when you move your arm, but not too tight to where you cannot fit two of your fingers underneath the band in-between your wrist. *If the original silicone band included with the watch is not being used, and you have installed a 3rd party band...this can also lead to fit or other features that detect movement through the watch sensors to have issues due to the design of the band and how the actual watch then rests against your wrist.
    • Enabling club prompt can help while golfing to allow a more obvious change on the watch screen indicating a shot was detected more readily during the round as well.
    • Garmin Golf devices paired with the Approach CT1 tags or CT10 Club Tracking sensors have further features allowing our system to rule out mishits, erroneous shots when the club you are using has a sensor or tag attached. Practice swings must be taken in the same location to where your actual ball is on the ground, and will not record multiple shots practice swings were taking in the same location. If you move to another location and a shot is detecting, this will still reflect on your scorecard.
    • Info for an overview of how the Autoshot feature works can be referenced on the Garmin Support page linked here: AutoShot and Other Features on Garmin Golf Watches and Devices
    • Info outlining what can cause the AutoShot feature on your watch to not work correctly is outlined on the Garmin Support page linked here: My Garmin Golf Watch Is Not Detecting Shots Automatically  (The content is applicable in also ensuring inadvertent shots are not detected by the Autoshot feature).
  • I can assure you I haven't been trying random practice swings in the middle of a golf course. This only started happening after the last update.

As with the issue with the wrong distances did. It's clearly the update that caused this problem

  • The info outlined in-depth in my initial response are to be considered initially prior to determining that the issue is attributed to any issues with software.

I have sent you a direct message to gather some additional information, and we will review further on our end after submitting a ticket through your account.

Please be sure to provide any responses to the direct message back via direct message vs the thread due to some of the information being account specific.

    - Thank you
