Garmin S70 virtual caddie woes

Like everyone else here it seems, i also have been having the red ! of death for a number of months now! I've been trying absolutely everything to resolve this issue myself! Up until about 2 weeks ago, the temporary fix was to add a new club, then sync to my device (S70), which after a lot of faffing around seemed to work. However, even that does NOT work now! I've tried unpairing my S70, restarting both watch and phone, blah blah blah. You name it, i've tried it!

It came to a head about 10 days ago, when my wife (also a golfer) said, 'You spend more time messing with that blo*dy watch before/during/after the round than what you do actually playing golf'! That hit home, believe me, and then has me agitated for the whole round! The irony is that my wife has an S62, and never misses a beat so-to-speak, and virtual caddie works 100% of the time without fail! My last watch was also the S62, and worked perfectly EVERY time! I now rue the day i spent a fortune (for me) on this supposedly upgrade of a watch! Oh, and don't get me started on the S70 deciding BY ITSELF that it needs to go into sleep-mode after every round i play!

Anyway, i had a 'chat' with Garmin customer-services the other day, and, as it's still in warranty, they have agreed to send out a replacement device. I shipped it yesterday, so hopefully will have a new S70 within the next 7 days! As it stands, i'll be without a device when i play this weekend! That said, at least i won't be in a grumpy mood as usual before i tee off, lol! Joking aside, i find it incredulous that this MASSIVE issue has not been fully resolved yet! I feel that the S70 therefore is NOT fit for purpose, period! Part of me is even contemplating selling the new device once it arrives, and then buying a used S62, as they clearly ARE fit for purpose!

Garmin, Garmin, Garmin, what the heck is going on plse? If this 'new' device still has the virtual caddie issues when it arrives, i will be seeking legal advice...

  • I get you....  I didn't know the 1 round issue.  I fixed my issue a different way so since I'm playing today, I'll report back and see if it's fixed.  Hopefully so.  Let me check and I'll post the findings later this afternoon.

As for Garmin not being responsive, I would disagree.  I think they are trying to fix the issue...just maybe not at the speed we'd all like.  But to go to the next level for a class action suit is ludicrous.  That's all I'm saying.  Of course we all want a product that works.

And to be honest, the LEAST useful feature for me is the virtual caddie.  I understand that that's not the case for all users but the utility of the S70 especially when you combine it with the Z30 scope is awesome.  That alone beats 99% of the products out there.  I had a Caddytalk which was the 1st device to offer triangulation.  Cool feature especially if it's cart path only.  Garmin fixed that issue in one sweep by offering the Z30.  Now that's amazing tech!   We have to give Garmin props as well....I just don't agree with the negativity behind the forum ditching out *** to Garmin.  It's a good company with good products.  Yes, there are software glitches with updates but they are working on it.  What software doesn't have glitches?  Have you tried Windows lately?  haha.  You get what I mean hopefully.

  • Hmmm, plse be careful with your wording on public forums my friend. The actual wording I used was 'seeking legal advice, ie NOT 'class action suit', 2 very different terms...

  • The comment wasn't at you --- it was at Chris.  Check the thread on page 1.  He mentioned Class Action Suit.

  • I can confirm that I used it yesterday AND today so 3 rounds total and the caddie feature worked fine.  We're all trying to help each other here so no need to put "bro" in quotes my friend.  As I mentioned earlier, the method I used (which is posted in the forum) worked nicely.  Maybe try it before writing your idiotic thread responses.

  • I can confirm that I used it yesterday AND today so 3 rounds total and the caddie feature worked fine.  Look up the solution I posted on this forum.  It works and fixed the problem.

  • Thank you, although I'm nobody's 'bro', so perhaps  check your own wording in responses before attempting to castigate others, aye??

No doubt we're both after the same outcome here, and if/when the matter is FULLY resolved, one hopes that we can then look back and chuckle to ourselves!!Thumbsup

Maybe then I won't feel the need to post 'idiotic thread responses'!!

  • Well I'll agree to that.  Look up my previous post that has the solution.  It works.  I now have had 3 rounds with NO issues.  Hope it works for you.

  • Thank you! My replacement is due for delivery tomorrow. I have 2 important competitions this weekend, so I shall follow your instructions to the letter, although I have to say that I have pretty muchRelievedone the same multiple times over recent weeks, only to then end up disappointed yet more. As mentioned in my initial post here, my good lady was starting to comment on the amount of time I was spen trying to sort my watch out! Without going into too much detail, c£550 is a lot of money for us, so plse understand my reasoning behind my rants..Relieved

  • I get it. It is definitely an expensive watch. But I do think it's a good piece of technology. I hope it works for you and I'm sure it will. Just follow the steps as you mentioned.

As an aside, check out the Garmin z30 rangefinder when you get a chance. I added it to my equipment and it's awesome. I would say it's about 95% accurate in that when you ping the flag, 95% of the time it's accurate on the green map on the watch. About 5% of the time it's close enough to play the distance but a slight adjustment is necessary on the Green map. I love it.

  • Yes, the Z30 looks amazing, although way outside my budget as things stand, sadly. To be fair, i'm happy to get on the green, lol, so having to rely totally on the S70, and personal experience i guess also..

It may be something and nothing but IN BETWEEN your recent rounds (when your VC appears to be continually working), has your S70 been switched on the whole time? It dawned on me last night, but could the reason why some users are reporting that this new 'fix' only works for the 1st round because they are then then switching the watch off, and not switching it on again until just before they play their next round. Might the watch then default to bad habits so-to-speak, and they have to edit something in their bag yet abl*odygain?

As i only use the S70 for golf, i have been switching off in between rounds, if nothing else to preserve battery life, etc. A few weeks ago, when i've been switching on my watch again a couple of hours before i was playing my next round, i was then having to re-edit My Bag, and resync, and so on and so forth. is it any wonder therefore why i (and many others) have been kicking off, especially for a piece of hardware that's supposed to be bees knees!?

It's just a thought of course, but might just be linked..

    Thoughts?
