Garmin S70 virtual caddie woes

Like everyone else here it seems, i also have been having the red ! of death for a number of months now! I've been trying absolutely everything to resolve this issue myself! Up until about 2 weeks ago, the temporary fix was to add a new club, then sync to my device (S70), which after a lot of faffing around seemed to work. However, even that does NOT work now! I've tried unpairing my S70, restarting both watch and phone, blah blah blah. You name it, i've tried it!

It came to a head about 10 days ago, when my wife (also a golfer) said, 'You spend more time messing with that blo*dy watch before/during/after the round than what you do actually playing golf'! That hit home, believe me, and then has me agitated for the whole round! The irony is that my wife has an S62, and never misses a beat so-to-speak, and virtual caddie works 100% of the time without fail! My last watch was also the S62, and worked perfectly EVERY time! I now rue the day i spent a fortune (for me) on this supposedly upgrade of a watch! Oh, and don't get me started on the S70 deciding BY ITSELF that it needs to go into sleep-mode after every round i play!

Anyway, i had a 'chat' with Garmin customer-services the other day, and, as it's still in warranty, they have agreed to send out a replacement device. I shipped it yesterday, so hopefully will have a new S70 within the next 7 days! As it stands, i'll be without a device when i play this weekend! That said, at least i won't be in a grumpy mood as usual before i tee off, lol! Joking aside, i find it incredulous that this MASSIVE issue has not been fully resolved yet! I feel that the S70 therefore is NOT fit for purpose, period! Part of me is even contemplating selling the new device once it arrives, and then buying a used S62, as they clearly ARE fit for purpose!

Garmin, Garmin, Garmin, what the heck is going on plse? If this 'new' device still has the virtual caddie issues when it arrives, i will be seeking legal advice...

  • I am having exactly the same issues. I have tried every possible combination on resets/pairing etc and still get the red ! This is driving me mad.

  • Garmin, Garmin, Garmin, what the heck is going on plse? If this 'new' device still has the virtual caddie issues when it arrives, i will be seeking legal advice...

Only hope would be a class action but what would be the ground?

  • i'm not a legal expert of course, but the 'device' is clearly not fit for purpose. Garmin would have to be given the opportunity to address/correct the issue, and whilst software updates are being rolled out, the problem still persists, sadly!

  • Update August 29, 2025:

Our engineers have indicated this concern should now be resolved. This was a fix on the backend with the Golf app. You will need to sync a new file for this. So upload a scorecard with shot data, or edit any clubs in your My Bag in the Garmin Golf app.

Please feel free to test this again, and let us know if this continues to be a concern.

  • Really bro?  Get a grip.  You're talking about a golf watch - don't make it a first world problem.  The watch is great and is software driven. It will have bugs.  There are bigger fish to fry.

  • Got to disagree with your sentiment here 'bro'! This is a Garmin forum, and hence, owners will rightly voice their concerns and issues! Notwithstanding that there is potentially indeed more to worry about in life but, as above, this is essentially the only avenue to get help for everyone!

This S70 watch is bloody expensive, and, in fact, cost more than my 1st car! It is extremely apparent that this 'golf' watch is NOT fit for purpose!!!

Garmin, sort your act out plse, and soon, this is POOR to say the least, and that's the way I feel ..

  • I understand what you're saying.  Garmin IS getting their act together.  The newest version has fixed the issue.  All I'm saying is that a Class Action Lawsuit is BS.  That's what I meant when I said get a grip.  I agree that customers deserve a good product but a lawsuit over a software bug???   That's stupid.   And btw, Garmin DOES listen to its customers.  The watch issue is fixed so clearly they were listening.

  • Latest fix works once. Then it's back to the red !. This is not a fix. I think people including myself are angry because this feature was working.

  • I'm playing today.  Will report back once I check it out.  I tried a different fix which I've posted on these forums.  I'll try again today and report back in the afternoon.

  • That's the thing 'bro'! Listening to the responses on here, this so-called fix works for 1 round, then problem raises its ugly head again! A couple of months ago, exact same scenario as this, ie works for 1 round, then back to square 1 yet again! You really suggesting therefore that this massive 'problem' has therefore been resolved fully?
