Home Conditions Setting

I'm a bit confused about the Home Condition setting.

When I set this, is it always used as a "base" regardless of where I play? How does the watch determine when I'm playing at "home"? Do I need to manually update this setting whenever temperature and humidity change?

Where I live, humidity varies between 60-100% throughout the year, and temperatures (when I play) range from 0-30°C.

I was under the impression that the S70 would automatically pull this data from the weather information it receives via the iPhone app. Is that not the case?

  • The "Home Conditions" setting allows you to adjust the PlaysLike DIstance factors for Weather if you are travelling and playing in a different weather environment.

This is due to the calculation seeming different when playing a new or course travelled to due to the changes in altitude, temperature, and humidity affecting the PlaysLike Distance reading differently than the location you typically play.

Home Conditions allows you to use the conditions at home for the courses you typically play vs the conditions unfamiliar in a different location.

  • So if I've done all my gapping on a trackman, and want to use that as my baseline. Should I just set the home conditions to like 0m, 0 humidity and 20c temp?

  • If those are the conditions you would like enabled to factor into the PlaysLike Distance feature, then yes.

Otherwise, if you are wanting the temp, humidity, and elevation set for the current location and weather for that day where you are playing, then you would want to use the weather options with your watch connected to your smartphone with Garmin Golf app sync throughout the round.

  • Just to confirm that I understand this correctly Slight smile

    1. In the PlaysLike setting, if I have wind and weather toggled on, and my watch is connected to my phone with the Garmin Golf app active throughout the round, I should ideally set Home Conditions to the conditions where I know my distances best. Is that correct?

    2. If I were to continuously adjust Home Conditions to match the weather where I’m playing, that would mean PlaysLike wouldn’t factor in temperature, humidity, or elevation at all, since it would already be matched to what the watch thinks I'm used to(since the home condition setting would match the weather for the day), and the playslike would pretty much show the same as the actual distance, correct?

  • 1. If you are playing a course somewhere that has a different elevation, temp, humidity than you are used to, and if you want those factors set differently for the conditions you normally play in.

2.The values would factor PlaysLike Distance to what you have set for the home conditions in the watch settings.  It would still factor the values entered if you have weather enabled in the Setting. The only way it would not factor is if you turned off those features through the settings available in the PlaysLike menu.
