Approach S70 Blue Triangle

My 13 Month old S70 is displaying the Blue Triangle of Death.  It is fully charged and will not turn on. My retailer advice is the watch is now out of warranty and they cannot replace it. Said return it and they could send it to Garmin but no guarantee that anything can be done. Ive invested over $1,000 in this watch.  Anybody else had similar experience?

  • GARMIN hve posted a message on Garmin Connect today advising they have identified the issue of Blue Triangle on Approach S70 and fixed it. They advise if problem not resolved refer to Help page-  where there is no mention of this issue or a fix.  Very frustrating

  • I feel the pain

For a S70, you need to perform a factory reset (and will lose all data/user setup):

    Approach S70 Golf Watch

To resolve, you will need to complete a factory reset of the device by following the steps listed below.

NOTICE: Completing the following steps will result in the loss of the following data from the device which can be recovered:

    • Garmin Wallet

    • Connect IQ content (watch faces, apps, data fields)

    • Body Battery Data

    • Some loss of steps

    • Shortcut controls

    • Customized data fields
    1. Press and hold the middle button until the watch powers off.

    2. Press and hold Action and Back buttons.

    3. Press and hold the middle button to power on watch, while continuing to hold the other buttons.

    4. After the first beep release Action button.

    5. After second beep release Back button.

The watch should reboot and return to the set up screen. From here, select your language to begin the setup process. You will need to pair your watch with your phone as well as set up other features such as Garmin Wallet and Connect IQ apps. Here are some resources to help get you started.

  • Hi Chris,  my watch will not poower off. I hold the middle button for say 15 seconds ( as suggested on forum) but it remains on.  Any suggestions as to how to get it to sut down?

  • Hi Chris thanks for your reply.    Ive followed Steps 1-5.  However it does not reboot and return to set up screen.  If I attempt repower it with the middle button - the blue triangle reappears.  Garmin should be offering to repair watch at no charge  and look after customers rather than sending us down rabbit holes that dont provide a fix

  • Chris after step 5 do I release the middle button immediately or hold it down until reboot commences?

  • After Step5 you should release the back button which is the bottom one (not middle)

I never done this process so can't help you much...

  • I have been reading this problem is global and affecting nearly all users of Garmin watches released in the last few years. There are several Youtube videos discussing fixes and the extent of the issue which is massive.

So  I've  tried this factory reset recommended by Garmin mutiple times today but the Blue Triangle of Death persists. I cannot see how this issue can be resolved for my watch. Since it will not turn on it cannot receive any software update to resolve the glitchy software update rolled out yesterday.   Ill take watch back to retailer and demand a refund.  Last time I buy anything from Garmin

  • I just unboxed my new S70 - same experience - BTOD.  I spoke with customer services, and they said it started yesterday morning and was due to a bad firmware update.  They went on to say that there's nothing we can do now as the bug won't allow a factory reset. An email will be sent once the developers have found a fix.  Shocking performance for a watch that costs over £500!

  • I agree.  At least Garmin staff are being honest in admitting publicly that the issue is a bad firmware update . Since  owners like me can’t successfully do a factory reboot our watches are toast . For those under warranty  just replace with a new one at your  Garmin dealer ,   For the rest of us the solution is unclear - no  amount of software fiddling with fix the issue . Garmin should agree to repair or replace all affected watches but I fear they may not.
