CT10's are a bit of a rip off given they are not compatible with well known putter brands

I do really feel like Garmin are ripping some of us off.

Odyssey AI One is currently a very popular putter and the CT10's are rammed down our throats as the only way to unlock more data. But...and who would have thought it...Garmin have made their CT10's so they cant be screwed into the putter. Fair enough maybe - but have they actually said this?

Outside of this rip off...as per previous threads, the CT10's are pretty useless really in providing meaningful additional data.

So Garmin - what ACTUALLy is the benefir here and what additional data does this unlock??

And...well...has anyone in the design team seen or heard of Odyssey putters? Maybe they are testing on the hickory sticks!!

  • Actually, the problem --as I see it-- is not with the CT10 sensors, but with the Garmin Golf itself and the way it was written.  I believe the sensors are more than capable of providing the requisite data, but without the right app to access said data sets, they fail to live up their full potential.

It's the main reason that (as an owner of the CT10 full set) I wish they (and Arccos) would allow the sensors to be used with other more data-centric apps if they're not going to update the Garmin Golf app to provide a more intensive data set.

It's also the reason I got rid of the R10 long ago and got a Mevo+ and later a Launch Pro.  While Garmin makes excellent hardware, I've come to realize that Golf is an afterthought to them, unlike Arccos or Shot Scope or others.  They make their money on other things they sell and decided to dip a toe into the Golf world to make some money.

  • I agree with both. I switched over to the S70 from shotscope because their hardware was crap and buggy, but I am really missing the shotscope app and data now. The garmin golf app has maybe 15% of the metrics shotscope has, but the complete lack of putting data is the biggest issue.

I bought the C10 sensors for my putter but it is useless. First of all it doesn’t fit and second it is just a terrible way to track putting, missed or inaccurate putts and phantom putts are inevitable. The best way to track putting is manually tracking the putting locations, which garmin allows for but does not feed the data into the app.

I appreciate the continuous improvements and space for users to share feedback, but holding putting data hostage seems like a slap in the face to users paying $1,000+ for hardware and $120 annually for the subscription. It would be nice to know if this was going to be added next year.

  • Shotscope has recently allowed manual entry of rounds in web dashboard. If you want the best of both worlds, you could enter your round.

    I tried it.

Used S70 as always on course, marked shots with watch, no CT10s.

Used scorecard to record putt details. Distance of putt(s) and Pin location. For pin just a quick note like BR for Back Right as a reminder.

As you know, S70 does miss short game shots so you need to remember where those were.

I found it took about 15min max to enter a complete round in the Shotscope. Fairly easy. But that might depend on experience with Shotscope dashboard and your memory recall.

  • As is the case with the wonderful s70, the main problem with the garmin golf products are with the software.  From the outside looking in, it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to improve the golf app - so much data which could be used much better than it is currently.......

As for connecting to the Odyssey and numerous putter grips, whilst annoying you can find a solution. Arccos also doesn't fit out of the box - you can buy an adapter or use glue and or tape.

  • Since the release of the Approach CT-10 Club Tracking Sensors, they have been advertised for specific use with specific GPS Garmin Golf products for golf rounds at golf courses.

The Approach CT-10 sensors are entirely designed around allowing users the convenience of automating the scoring, club tracking, and additional club performance metrics provided from use with the sensor being paired to Garmin golf device. This allows automatic detection of shots that are partial swings/chips/putts due to the lower impact between the club face and the ball compared to full swing shots.

Other non-Garmin club sensors have specific pairing and design features that also have their own requirements and limitations in terms of product compatibility. At this time other sensors types for "club tracking" are not compatible with the Garmin products that offer GPS related golf features.

The CT-10 sensors were developed by Garmin well before the Approach S70, Approach R10, G80, and R50 were made available and are designed to be useful for pairing with GPS golf watches to alleviate the need for user input with the club prompt and scoring features.
