Open Swim on the Garmin Approach S70

Hi Garmin,

I am a golfer and a swimmer.  I bought the Garmin S70 to replace my Garmin S60 when the battery would no longer hold enough charge to play 18 holes.  I also have Form goggles for my swimming.  I found out that Form goggles integrate with *many* Garmin watches and not my new Garmin S70.  Apparently, this is because my S70 does not support Open Swim.  Can you and/or are you planning to add Open Swim to the S70?  This would allow me to see my heart rate (from my Garmin S70) in the "heads up display" of my Form goggles as I swim, versus having to stop swimming to look at my watch.

  • Hi,

I would also like to suggest to introduce open swim sport mode for the approach series. As there are already gps functions for other sports I imagine there is completely feasible

  • At this time we do not have any announcements regarding the open water swim activity becoming available on the Approach S70.

A fitness or outdoor multisport watch would be needed that offers more of a design focus on those types of activities...as the Approach S70 has a design focused maximum golf features and premium materials over fitness and functionality. This is why the Approach S70 also does not include Triathlon, marathon, cross-fit, ultra-run, swim-run, etc. in the activity app list.

Open water swim not being offered as an activity is not necessarily the reason you cannot pair your swim goggles to the Approach S70...as the S70 is compatible with pairing to ANT+ sensors and BLE accessories...as the goggles you are wanting to use require the data field download offered from Form Swim through the iQ Store to allow the features to relay from a compatible Garmin watch to the goggles. The required data field offered from Form can be referenced through our iQ Store site linked here: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/ca3ce193-fffc-4fae-9740-8a2d4c41d196 on the page for the download from Form, you can reference the compatible device list, and if pool swim options become offered from form, compatibility with the S70 may be an option at that point vs. Open Water swim...however, the design and usefulness of the features offered from Form are oriented around Open Water swimming specifically.
