My club just completely redesigned one of our 9 hole courses and is in the process of redesigning another. how long does that take to be reflected in the watch.

My club just completely redesigned one of our 9 hole courses and is in the process of redesigning another.  They are completely redoing the courses with a different developer.   How do the courses get updated in the watch and, typically, how long does that take?    The 9 that just opened has the same name but was altered significantly with new lakes, bunkers, lengthened holes, etc.  It was a complete redesign.

  • I don't know if Garmin is proactive on course updates. Best bet is for golfers to submit the changes to Garmin and they will do the update. I'd guess if mapping is available the turnaround is 3-4 months depending on the time of year.

  • That's unfortunate.  I mean, I'm not talking about small changes.   They completely redesigned the course with brand new green shapes, bunkers, relocated tee boxes, and added lakes and water ways, etc.   It's a new designer (Lanny Watkins) and, as such, a brand new modern course. There's no chance a normal person can document that and submit to Garmin.  I assume it'd need to go through whatever process was used to get the course in there originally?

  • Talk with club/course. Maybe they do these types of submissions to Garmin. It seems like that would be quite the investment on your part to explain the changes. Even harder if there are no online maps to attach and explain the changes.

We had a course in my area that adjusted 3 holes, mostly fairway and water added between them. Garmin did update the maps properly. About 2 years later. No idea if the 2 years is because it took them that long or it took 2 years for someone to submit a request.

It would be an interesting question for Garmin to answer. How long from when a course makes a change does Garmin see that change in their maps and can update a course?

  • You do not need to outline all of the specific changes, just submit a short overview in the report form here: https://www.garmin.com/forms/golfcourses/

The golf map cartography team will then go through official sources to implement the new renovation to that course map for release to our map updates.

Garmin does not schedule course map updates and they are bundled and released throughout the year. Once you submit the changes, you will be emailed once the updates are available to install for the course mapping. This can take a couple of months due to the updates being bundled and released periodically throughout the year.
