What Garmin watch is the best for golf ?

Garmin forums are rather watch model specific than activity specific.  So I decided to post my question on top Golf watch forum which is S70. During my golf history I had S20 , than S60, than S62 and finally S70.  In the meantime I tested also S10, G12, Z80, G82, S42.. All these things were from Approach family.  Last couple of months I noticed however there are other Garmin watches which can be used in Golf.  It was not a  big surprise for me since many Garmin watches have plenty of sports activities on board.  But real surprise for me was some non Approach watches are even better than Approach family.  For example S70 released half a year back is the only Amoled Approach watch so far ( I excluded Marq ) while Venu, Fenix, Epix have Amoled display  for years. Epix is good example : it it is Amoled version of S62 .  Venu family is something between S42 and S62.  You may say Epix is more expensive than S62 or S70.  But Venu is not.  New Venu 2 costs similarly to S42 but is a class or two better.  So I repeat my question which Garmin watch is the best choice for your golfing ?  For me it is Venu 2plus which I bought second hand at 150€ but it is better than S62.

  • The answer to this question is going to specific to the other features users are wanting from the device. Each watch that offers golf features can offer less non-golf features compared to others.

If Topographical maps, street maps, outdoor features, fitness tracking, smart features, and rugged durability are needed...the fenix, epix gen 2 models may be best for users. However, if you want something more premium with luxury watch design...the MARQ series covers durability, all of these features, and features high-end design.

Those wanting smart feature oriented connectivity to their smartphone, fitness tracking, and some other activity options with secondary golf features...the Venu, or Vivo series may be best if they are not wanting preloaded course mapping, or other mapping for more smart watch related features that cover basic golfing features.

If activity tracking with heart rate, is not intended on being used but the user primarily plays golf, records an occasional walk, and wants to know steps tracked throughout the day...the Approach S42 is a great option for a more golf-centric watch with a few additional basic features for smart connectivity, step tracking, and walk, run, cycling offered to record on the watch.
