How to avoid recording shots that never happened

I use the S70 with CT-10 sensors. Sometimes i wonder if the sensors are more pain than benefit, because they often record shots that never happened. For example, it is very common to take multiple clubs with you when you have a chip shot (might take a wedge or a 8 iron), and you usually take your putter. That means you will have to lay a few clubs on the ground when you hit. Most of us just drop the clubs on the ground.  This often records a shot or two. There are other scenarios where this happens.

I know you can edit the shots in the Golf app after the round is uploaded. That's OK, but the editing is pretty clunky and i don't want to have to do it every time.

How do you all deal with this?

  • Kinda need to pick your poison on this one.

Before I dropped all CT-10 sensors, I scaled down to just the putter. I found this made a round of golf easier for me. The downside the S70 will miss just about every short game shot you hit but if you got a decent memory, you can easily add them in post round. I use the site vs the app. I find it less clunky.

For performance stats, you need the putter CT10. The other clubs can be added as you hit on the watch and post round in app or website.

  • Thanks for your thoughts.

Why did you drop the sensors? i got the sensors because i thought it would be easier than entering the club i hit every time i make a shot.

Regarding your point about the short game shots, i'm not sure they are really all that important to record. I want to record the full shots so i have a real-world understanding of how far i really hit each club. Knowing that i can chip a SW 30 yards doesn't do me much good.

  • I found that the short game even with sensors didn't capture the swing many times. That forced me to always look at watch to see if the shot was recorded. If not, I'd bang my club in the spot more firm (post real shot) to mark a spot.

This all became just an annoying extra step to remember and do. I find golf hard enough, I don't need this extra hassle to remember. So I dropped the sensors except for the putter.

Eventually dropped the putter sensor as well as I find many issues with Garmin golf data and how it is presented to us, the user. No shortage of posts on this issue, going back years. No need to repeat here.

    Sold the set.

Now upgraded to S70 but still no sensors. Would I go back to them? I'd have to see a big change in how Garmin collects and presents golf data. Until then, I don't find enough value.

  • agreed with all. Garmin could do SO much more with the data.

  • The Approach S70 can have up to 3 sensors paired clubs pulled out of the bag at once during rounds of golf. If you are walking up to the green with putter and wedges, ensure that there are no more than three sensor attached clubs out of the bag at once.

Then gently lay the clubs not in use club face first, leaning over to gently rest the grip end of the club on the ground while proceeding to use your next club in hand.

Tossing of the clubs or setting them down in a manner that results in an impact being detected should be avoided in conjunction with your pace of play. The watch, and the sensor attached to the club work together in conjunction with each other to determine an actual shot was taken, regardless of whether an additional or third club is also pulled out of the bag and paired to the watch. This results in the correct club being credited for the shot, while the other paired clubs out of the bag are not being used.
