Worth it for a new golfer?

Curious if this is worth it for a new golfer, who doesn't really know how far they can hit the ball with any given club yet.

  • Yes, it is! You will show you which average distance you get with you clubs and you can see the distance to the flag.

As more as you play you will get similar distances with the same clubs. I started with a S60 5 years ago and now I know the average distance of all my clubs. I have now an Epix Pro and the best feature is moving the pointer to obstacles and border of the fairway so I know the distance to use the right club.  Also recording the amount of hits per hole to have the scorecard helps a lot.

  • I would consider 2nd hand S62 which you can buy at 200-300€.  In your case S62 is 95% the same in terms of  functionality.

Other option is S42 which is even cheaper and have 90% of S70 functionality.  But please avoid S60 which is different class.

  • Would agree with that unless you can afford the S70

    • I bought S70 just after it appeared. After three months I realized it  had no value for me over my old S62. Main S70 selling point is amoled display which is fancy but S62 is better readable particularly in direct sun. Improved virtual caddy is as useless as in S62 case. Strap is not quick fit type so I couldn’t use any of my old straps. If someone wants to use S70 as everyday watch then amoled look nice.  But it is still golf watch and rubber strap attached to plastic case doesn’t look very stylish. Btw Epix 2has the same functions as S70 plus many more other and has more strap  and case combinations.
  • this is a pretty spot on and honest review that doesn't even go into the past few months of issues as well as the Garmin golf issues/lackluster when compared to competitors.

  • Put the pins back in and use your quick fit straps. Sorted. S70 is a good watch. The Garmin back end needs the work. Stats tracking etc is pretty much non existent. If you have money to burn then go with a S70 otherwise I’d look at the S62.
