Hole indices are incorrect.

Does anyone know how to change the stroke indices of the holes? The watch is incorrect. My old S60 you could manually change but can't find any setting on the S70.

  • To make the adjustment follow the steps outlined below for the Approach S70:

    1. Starting from the watch face showing the time, tap the MENU button located on the middle side of the watch to open the main menu.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Golf Settings.
    4. Select Scoring.
    5. Select Handicap Scoring.
    6. Set the handicap by selecting Local Handicap, Index/Slope Method, or Use Garmin Golf.

Below is a link to the Garmin Support page providing further information into this feature for reference if needed:

  • The stroke indices are set by the watch so regardless of the scoring method used, the number of strokes allowed relative to your handicap per hole I can't change. I'm given additional shots on holes when I shouldn't be and vice versa. The S60 I could change the SI for a hole but can't seem to do that with the S70

  • Please refer to the steps in the support article that I linked above to manually set your handicap on the Approach S70 through the golf settings menu directly on the watch.

The instructions are outlined in my last response on this post. Otherwise, the scorecard you record during the round will be based on your Garmin Golf handicap, which is set based on the accumulation of all your scorecards recorded from your previous Garmin Approach products.

  • Appreciate the response but this isn't right. This isn't directly a handicap issue. The stroke index of each golf hole is defined as the difficulty of one hole in comparison to other golf holes on the same course. Every golf hole is given a unique stroke index (SI). For an 18 hole golf course, they are numbered from 1 – 18. SI 1 is the hardest hole and SI 18 is the easiest hole.

My handicap whether "local, Index slope , or garmin golf then will allow me shots on the hardest holes. So for instance a 6 handicap will have an additional shot on the 6 hardest holes. A 22 handicap will have one extra shot on all holes and 4 extra shots on the 4 hardest holes.

This stroke index is as far as I can tell set by Garmin. I can't change it and the ranking system as set on my watch is incorrect for my local course. I could previously change this on my S60 but can't change it on my S70. As such the watch allows for additional shots where it shouldn't. So in a stablefors scoring format it is giving me wrong total scores.

  • If you are seeing that the allowances on the scorecard are calculating incorrectly. we would recommend getting in contact with Garmin Support to discuss the concern with a Golf Specialist to determine what may be causing the concern. The calculated cannot be edited any further other than the options available in the Golf Settings menu on the watch, or through the leaderboards section in the app.

Please note prior to determining the allowances are incorrect by considering that the scorecards for the Approach S70 use the World Handicap System, and is calculated based 8 of the best recent rounds in the last 20 scorecards synced to your account.
