Virtual Caddie

Has virtual caddy been updated in the S70 as to have an easy way to correct errant shot recordings? I have owned both the MARC and the S2 of which both have had the same issue. There are hundreds of unsatisfied customers of these watches (Forum S62) that have ask about an update that would be very easy to set up.  As you know for the past 3 or 4 years, we've only received a note saying we're working on it. As I've stated before the watches are great but virtual caddie is totally useless without accurately recorded distances. Putter distances of 50 yds and drivers at 1200 yds are ridiculous with no easy way to change them. I really want to be a good customer but to pay this kind of money for something advertised that does not work as advertised is not acceptable. I'm interested in the S70 but only if guaranteed it will work as advertised.

Thank You

  • The classic "we are working on it", "submitting to engineers" are so common in these forums. I glance through sometimes and think that after 3-4 years and many great suggestions, I don't think a single idea from this forum has been added to a watch.

Maybe someone can name one. I could have missed it.

  • A total disappointment for what could be one of the greatest products on the market for golfers. It all starts with customer service. Time to step up and make it right!

  • I don't think a single idea from this forum has been added to a watch.

It would be very difficult to prove that an idea specifically from the forum was the reason it's now on the watch. Garmin takes its ideas/suggestions from a variety of sources, including Garmin Support and the Share Ideas site. If you have an idea you feel is important, suggest submitting it to all these sources.

  • So you’re saying complaints about issues shouldn’t be posted are presented to customer service?

  • Yes! Please do this. I used Game Golf for years and it excluded extreme shots long and short. Unfortunately they didn't keep up with software on their end so I made the switch to Garmin, I just assumed they would do the same thing (and even better) but it sounds like it's a big issue.

  • The Approach S70 features improved virtual caddie features: Get a club recommendation based on wind, elevation, your swing data and more. A new shot dispersion chart quickly shows what hazards may be in play depending on your club choice.

Shots being recorded incorrectly are not directly related to the virtual caddie feature, as virtual caddie ends up being affected based on max and averages having outlier shots not corrected from the scorecards synced over.

Your topic is related to shots recording incorrectly which is through the Autoshot feature on golf compatible products, and shots recording too long due to factors that are preventable. In the event a shot is incorrectly recorded during the round we offer you the option to edit your scorecard. Users should check there scorecards after each round, and reference their shot data to prevent a bunch from building up, to avoid having to search through each hole on, on multiple scorecards.

  • Regarding Virtual Caddie and club distances. How far back in data does the caddie go? Meaning, if I have 2-3 years of data for one club, is it using all that data? That would be terrible especially when a person improves their game but old data is skewing club averages because of old data.

When I look at club averages it just shows averages. It doesn't say what it is based on like "last 10 rounds".

Curious if that can be confirmed by Garmin team.

  • Using Virtual Caddie requires that the following has been met.

    • A compatible Garmin® watch connected to the Garmin Golf app.
    • 5 rounds played with Club Prompt enabled or Approach® CT10 sensors paired.
NOTE: 5 full scorecards in your account from a previous watch with AutoShot data assigned to clubs will activate Virtual Caddie on your watch.

Using Virtual Caddie on a Garmin Golf Watch support article on the site available for reference if needed.

  • Sorry, that wasn't the question. I'm not asking what the requirements are,

I'm asking how much data does Virtual Caddie take into consideration when suggesting.

If I have 100 rounds, does it use the club average from 100 rounds?

The issue is if someone improves their swing and the club is now 10 yards longer but they have 100 rounds of data, it might take forever for that 'average' to increase.

In the meantime, the caddie is making suggestions based on an in correct average.

  • If you look at the requirements, you will see that any full scorecard where club prompt was used, is considered as long as 5 or more of them exist in your account. No matter if recorded before you got a virtual caddie compatible watch, or if the scorecard was recorded on a different watch.
