Anybody got any suggestions?
For reference to others in this thread, below are links to Garmin support articles that go in-depth with both a general overview of the Autoshot detection features, and the other offers troubleshooting suggestions for this concern to reference if needed:
AutoShot and Other Features on Garmin Golf Watches and Devices
Tried all mentioned suggestions, however I called support and downloaded the update from Garmin Express vs. Wifi via the watch and did a soft reset. Will be testing on the golf course tomorrow to see if this resolves the issue.
Thanks!
Good to know...this seems to be an ongoing issue that has not been addressed. Pretty sad, when folks like myself are spending $700+ for a premium device. I'll be sending the watch back for sure.

Apologies if you are continuing to have concerns regarding the shot detection. I will be reaching out to us via direct message to get more info, as I am not sure what specifically is causing the issue in your circumstance...
The Approach S70 currently does not currently have an ongoing issue specific to the device causing widespread issues with shot detection for users, however we do monitor reports closely, so we would like to get more info from you.
Thank you!
Update. Received my new replacement S70 and I was still having issues with shot detection not prompting me on which club I just hit. So, I experimented with the settle hands briefly and this is what is causing the issue, I like to waggle my club quite a bit before I hit the ball, I wish there was a setting that allowed me to adjust the amount of time I need to settle my hands, otherwise it feels very awkward having to pause my hands longer than I do naturally before I swing.
Anyway to forward this feedback onto your team?
We appreciate you confirming the feedback and adjustment you tested out.
Each user is going to have a different routine, grip, swing type when taking shots. The watch is designed to detect shots through the swing motion, and subsequent impact of the club face hitting the ball...along with the wrist the watch is worn on being on the lead hand, per the wrist setting in the User Profile menu of the watch.
I will submit your feedback as well, on what helped with getting your shots detected from the watch during the round, and may reach out for further info via direct message if needed as well.
Thank you!
Here are some examples, my pre-shot routine is similar to Ricky Fowlers in this video. Start at the 1:51 mark to view, even Ricky would have issues getting the auto-shot detection to activate. This definitely needs to be an option to adjust on the watch otherwise.
Thanks!
