Watch stuck in pairing loop

When I try to pair my watch it will time out and send me back to the select driver distance screen. When I enter the distance, it goes right back into trying to pair with my phone.

There doesn't seem to be a way out of this loop. If I reboot the watch, it just goes back through the initial prompts and we get back to the distance/pairing issue.

Same thing if I forget the device on my phone and try to restart the process that way.

Is there any way to factory reset the watch without having any access to its internal menu's, as I cannot progress past the initial screens.

  • If you are experiencing an issue pairing your Garmin device with the Garmin Golf App (GGA) please try the troubleshooting support FAQ page outlined below:

Install updates to your Approach S70 through the Garmin Express program on a home computer. Below is a link to our support page showing the steps to update through your computer:

Update Golf Courses and Device Software on an Approach

Once the updates are installed to your watch through Express, the watch will then proceed past the pairing step once the watch is updated and on the most current software version (11.25 as of 6/28/2023).

  • I was able to resolve this issue by doing a factory reset by holding the back button while turning on the watch.

Once the watch reset, I proceeded through the initial setup skipping the phone pairing step. Once the watch was active, I then was able to pair with my phone successfully.
