What are you supposed to do when satellite location is completely wrong on the course?

I was playing today and my distances were totally wrong. Like not even close. Eventually I'd see nothing but the default distances because the watch didn't even think I was on the right hole.

One time I hit a shot off the tee and then watched as the shot distance continually grew even though I wasn't moving. It eventually reached over 900 yards (picture #1). The app shows the tee shot as slightly off from where the teeboxes actually were, and then apparently thought my second shot was over 1200 yards away when it was in the fairway (picture #2).

What am I supposed to do in this situation? I paused the round and rebooted the watch, then resumed it. It did not help even though it seemingly "Located Satellite" fine. Is there an in round reset or a way to reconnect manually?

  • I recommend updating the course mapping on your S62 to the most current version through Garmin Express to get the maps up to date, as the issue you presented above could be due to a mapping issue.

If you notice this concern, confirm the watch is on the correct hole or transition the watch back one hole and then forward to the current hole you are standing on. The shot data shown in the photo from the scorecard above is in relation to the watch recording a change in your location from one hole to another, or is a result of GPS drift, poor signal, or the watch needing the satellite prediction update to current.

Factors that can cause GPS location or distance inaccuracies or drift can be referenced through the Garmin Support page through the link here: Resolving Inaccurate or Incorrect Distances on an Approach Series Watch

  • Thanks, I confirmed the maps are already up-to-date. I don't think it was a mapping issue, the problem was that the watch was continually moving me up to 900+ yards when I was literally standing still. That's what the map image is reflecting, not a problem with the map.

I changed holes multiple times to try to fix it in addition to pausing/resuming rounds and rebooting the watch. I guess that unfortunately confirms there is nothing that can be done when this happens.
