chipping data relative to hole

I have the S62 with CT10 sensors on my wedges and putter.  In the S62 manual it says.

On the online garmin connect app, when I look at my golf stats under chipping it shows a circle green with 3 rings and apparently displays my proximity to the hole with my chip shots.

Specifically it says: "See how accurate you are at chipping onto the green from within 50 yards. The entire circle represents the green, and the 3 inner rings represent short, medium and long distances from the hole at the center of the circle. All shots are calculated, but only shots that landed on the green will appear on the chart. You can also filter by club type."

But I never set the hole location.  So how does it know my proximity to the hole?  does it assume middle of the green?   If I do change the pin location on my watch during the round, is this reflected in my chipping data?  Does it know where my chips land because I have the CT10 on my putter so it's tracking my putts?

  • The hole location is not determined by sensors nor by the watch automatically and defaults to the middle value on the Approach S62. The putts are calculated based on short, medium, long putts relative the flag placement in Green view in relation to the last put that was detected.

The breakdown of the range in distance for short, medium, long is outlined below:

    • The percentage of 1-putts, 2-putts and 3-or-more-putts you make. (Distances from the hole). Outlined on support article: Garmin Golf Performance Stats and Data Available

    • Short (< 10 feet or < 3 meters)

    • Medium (10-20 feet or 3-6 meters)

    • Long (> 20 feet or > 6 meters)
