S62 won't charge

My S62 has the same charging issue,  tried to hold the middle button for 25 s to power it off, then hold 5s to power it on while connect to computer to charge it, worked once, but not working any more. chatted with a Garmin support, advice to order a new cable, not sure if that will solve the problem. Garmin seems to have covered their eyes to ignore this on going issue with so many consumers.

  • Try wiggling the cable connection and alsu a little ethyl alcohol on the chargin pins to remove any accumulated skin oils etc...

  • To process of eliminate charging concerns with your Approach S62, please consider the following steps:

    1. Connect your watch to a home computer through USB using the charging cable > Then press and hold the middle button on the side of the watch and keep it held for 20 seconds and then release it > After releasing the button, disconnect the charging cable and then reconnect it > You should then see the Triangle logo appear on the screen and the watch should begin charging and working properly going forward.
    2. If step 1 does not result in the watch charging, check the end of the charging cable that connects to the back of the watch. Inside the connector, you should see four pins. All four of the pins should be the same color, shiny metallic, sticking out the same length, and equally spaced. None of the pins should look bent, pushed in more than the others, or different. Does the cable appear as described? If the connector does not appear exactly as described, replace the cable and that should. resolve the charging issue.
    3. Then check the four metal dots on the charging contact on the back of the watch. All four of the dots should be identical, shiny, rounded and all the same color. None of the dots should appear a different color, corroded, dented in or different from the others. Do they all look that way on the back of the watch? If the contacts not appear exactly as described, use isopropyl rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to gently but thoroughly clean the four metal charging contact dots until they appear as described. Then reconnect and see if that results in the watch then charging.
    4. If the four metal charging contact dots appear damaged, due to them not visually looking as described, you would need to contact Garmin support to discuss if repair solutions are needed, and what options are available for you.

Approach S62 Garmin Support site articles relevant to the concern for reference in links if needed as well:

  • Garmin does not recommend wiggling or moving the cable connector once it has been inserted into the charging port on the back of the watch.

This cable and charging port design is not meant to be manuvered while secured and inserted into the back of the watch. Doing so can result in further damage to the cable or to the watch.

Refrain completely from pushing in the cable harder or moving it to try and get the watch to charge. If moving or touching the cable is required to get the watch to then begin charging, of of the pins in the charging cable likely are bent, pushed in further than how far they should be sticking out, are missing, or the connector is damaged....or the contacts on the back of the watch need cleaned due to buildup of debris, sweat, or skin oils.
