Steps are tracked in the background throughout the day based on arm movements. During the golf activity being actively recorded on the watch, distance is only attributed to GPS distances accumulated throughout the round...so steps are not factoring into the round of golf.
Keep in mind your arm movement, and when you step out of the cart to walk, that steps will be tracked in the background as they are throughout the entire day, which are primarily based on arm movement.
