Is Garmin golf 6-hole compatible?

Hi,

Are the watches and the Garmin Golf App any 6-hole courses compatible? We have different 6-hole courses, which are listed on the watch and Garmin Golf App.

But the app is unable to create any meaningful statistics (if ever any), shows wrong number of strokes (difference between what was recorded, what's on the scorecard horizontally and vertically and the graphical detail view of one hole).

What about calculating stablefort points? I have no clue, what I should enter on the round's scorecard. I tried every course-handicap from 50 (more is not possible) to 0. None of them calculated anything near what it should be. What is the right setting for a 6-hole course and handicap 54 (just started)?

Example scorecard from today. The screenshots are taken with a course-handicap of 18 (54 for 18-hole divided by three). This example is for hole #1. In this very case, I had 6 strokes, but was automatically recorded as 7 stroke. For the other holes I had to edit and confirm after the last stroke. Btw, I'm using the CT10 on all of my clubs.

1) What's the meaning of 1 and three dots on the upper table? The table on the bottom shows 7 strokes. Not really sure anymore but I thought there should be 6.

2) In this case the 7 are equal, but for hole #3 it's on screenshot 1 3 strokes and here 4 strokes. What does the different numbers really mean? Garmin says this (https://support.garmin.com/de-CH/?faq=dPgjOFCiYm2B2i86npk6W7) but this is not any equivalent to my scorecard

3) Show 8 strokes (three with irons, one with putter and additional four puts). What are the blue dots indicating?

5) Other arrangement of strokes (all clubs have a CT10 sensor)

In general, my watch behaves really differently from hole to hole (and there are only 6...):

- Not asking anything, jumping to the next hole (while walking away from the green)

- Asking for total strokes (but not for puts and penalties)

- Asking for total strokes and puts

- Asking for everything except penalties

Is this the usual and expected accuracy and quality I can expect from devices worth of $900?

  • I'll try to explain..

As a beginner You start with handicap 54. This does not mean You get 54 extra strokes on a 18 hole course.

Every course has different difficulty, and number of extra shots is given in that particulat course slope table. If You can max enter 50, I would assume that the course slope table gives 50 extra shots to a 54 handicap player. 54 is max handicap You can have.

So You should confirm this on Your course slope table and enter course handicap based on Your handicap and corresponding slope table.

You do not divide this number by holes. The handicap is based on 18 hole courses, and will give extra shots according to total extra, and hole difficulty (index). If You get 54 shots on a course, You will get 3 extra shots on all holes (18x3). If You get 53 shots You will get 3 shots on all holes except the easiest one (index 18), where You will get 2 shots. And so on.

On a 6 hole course the deduction will start on round 3, so if You have 50 extra shots You will have 3 strokes on all holes on round 1 and 2, and only 2 shots on the 4 easiest holes on round 3.

From Your scorecard You see You have 3 shots on all holes, represented by the 3 black dots.

On a par 3 hole, with 3 extra shots, Your par is 6. 6 strokes will give You 2 stableford points as this is Your par. If You do 5 strokes You will get 3 stableford points, and 7 strokes gives You 1. The line Danny Meier is Your Stableford points for each hole, total 19. Par on 6 holes is 12, so You've played way better than Your handicap. In fact 21 better (7x3), so You played to approx 33 in handicap. I'm not totally sure how this works since You only played 6 holes, and don't have more than 2 extra shots on round 3, but not important here.

On hole one You have registered 7 shots. 2 irons, 1 putter outside green, and 4 puts on the green. Not sure how the ct10 works, but I guess You have to enter number of puts on green only (3?) as it will register Your shot outside green automatically.

Strokes are normally total number of strokes from tee to hole. Penalties may ruin this. If You hit Your tee shot out of bounds, You will have to do another. This will be Your 3'rd stroke, but watch doesen't necessarily know that. So You may end up with 3 strokes on the graphics, when You actually made 5. So You need to tell the watch how many strokes in total, and I also get asked about penalties. You need to turn on statistics in order to be asked for this I believe, but may be a different way when using ct10.

Lastly You need to end the round in the menu when not playing 18 holes. On 9 hole courses You will get a question about continue after 9 holes, but not sure if You get this on 6 hole courses. When You press finish round it will be saved and uploaded to Garmin for later review.

Your new handicap will be calculated, but unless You register the score with Your course score system, the watch handicap will not match Your registered handicap.

Hope this helps, and enjoy Your game.
