How to mark penalties , number of putts, etc?

So I'm looking at older YouTube videos from about a year ago, and it looks like when the users inputs their score, they are greeted with score , number of putts, penalties, and where they hit the driver on fairway? I don't have any of those options other then just inputting my score and that's it?

Am I missing something obvious?

Also, is it normal that as soon as you step on the green it forgets your previous shot and thinks you're on the green now?

  • I think You have not enabled some settings.

First of all, download the latest software to Your watch using Garmin Express on a PC.

Then press the middle button and settings > golf settings

Enable what You want ( the bar to the right of the option is green when enabled)

    This should fix Your issues

  • Thanks for the reply but I am on the latest software of 4.0 and I’ve enabled all the golf settings already.

  • So what happens when you hit a ball from tee?

On par 3 holes You should be asked which club You used.

On par 4 and 5 the same, but in addition if You hit the fairway or left/right.

If You enable the caddy function the watch should also suggest the club to use around the course.

When You enter the green the watch will assume Your last shot was onto the green. This was very annoying in the past, as You may have overshot the green. Improved in latest sofrware release.

When You leave the green, going for next hole, the watch should prompt for the number of putter strokes. In prevoius release this was asked when You entered the green. In latest release this is changed so You need to be some distance away from the green (after been on the green), before it askes for putting strokes. I normally press the exclamation on bottom of the screen and enters putting strokes when I'm done.

  • once again, thanks for the help !

Whether it’s a part 3/4/5, Im only asked after I hit what club I used not where it landed. As soon as I hit it it shows the golf ball at the top and the more I walk the more the numbers goes up. Once I go to hit the ball it asks me again what club I used. (Sometimes it doesn’t ask me for which club but it registered a shot)

I don’t have the caddy function enabled it as I haven’t played 5 rounds yet.

Yes I see the same problem now where I walked across the green and it assumed I was on the green but it was past and then it didn’t register my shot.

As soon as I hit my putt I hit the little crayon icon and that’s where I input my score but it only asks for my score , not penalties , number of putts. If I leave the green I get the vibration, but again only asks me for my score not anything else.

  • Sorry, my bad.

    I said it incorrectly.

If You hit a par 3, it should only ask what club You hit with. Normally, You will then be close enough to the green, or on the green, and the watch will not register Your next shot, whether it's a chip shot or a putter. If it is a chip shot just outside the green You can trick the watch by hitting a shot on the location into the ground, or You will have to add the shot later in the app (my approach).

When You leave the green the watch should ask Your total number of strokes, how many puts and any penalties.

Basically the same routine for par 4 or 5, except the watch here normally should detect Your second and third shots, as You normally will hit those at full swing.

Only after the hole is finished the fairway left, center, right will appear as part of the score, putts, penalties routine.

I get the total number of strokes, puts, penalties and fairway question every time. If You don't get this it must be a missing enabled function, but not actually sure which one. I get these questions regardless of if I wait for the watch to vibrate and remind me, or if I enter them forced.

  • that explains a lot about what I was seeing happening on the par 3 since the shots aren't fully swings.

For fun I just started a round at a course nearby and if I go in the golf settings and go to scorecard, I can see all the options. I just wonder if I will see it when I'm on the green and trying to complete the round normally by hitting the pencil on it or are you saying I shouldn't do anything and wait for the reminder and fill it out that way ?

  • Well, on my watch I get all these questions when I finish a hole.

And I get them regardless of me waiting for the watch to enter the score or not.

So if You only get score question I believe there is a missing enabled option.

On Your scorecard You will get GIR statistics (GIR ok if Your score is 1 above putts on par 3, 2 above on par 4 etc), and fairway hits on par 4 and 5 (or arrows pointing left or right for missed fairway). Also average number of penalties for a round will be in Your statistics. Fairway hits for par 3 is not relevant.

  • You have to enable Stat Tracking in golf settings in order to enter number of putts and penalty shots.

  • Just wanted to say thanks guys, I played golf recently and I could see all the advanced stats.
