Request - S62 In game menu display, icon view vs list view option.

I just upgraded to the S62 from the S60 after a couple years of use. So far the transition has been painless, and enjoy the longer battery life and caddy. One thing the newer s62 has different than the 60 I don’t like as much is the new in game menu GUI. The 62 in game menu has “list view” for menu options to where the 60 had an “icon view” that shows all the options as icons in a circular pattern on the screen. The icon view is great for quick selection of desired option, as all the options are visible without needing to scroll, the list view with option name/title would be better for familiarization of the icons for a new user, or just larger buttons. It would be cool to be able to choose our desired menu display style between icon or list view. I seen a request for changing menu item order but not display style.

We've all been there. You're in the middle of a game, and you need to access the in-game menu. But which view is better? Icon view or list view?

It's a tough decision, but we think we might have the answer. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of each view.

    Icon view:

    Pros:

    - More visually appealing open-source
    - Easier to find what you're looking for

    Cons:

    - Takes up more space
    - Can be confusing if there are too many icons

    List view:

    Pros:

    - Takes up less space
    - More organized

    Cons:

    - Not as visually appealing
    - Can be difficult to find what you're looking for

So, which view is better? We think it depends on the situation. If you're in a game with a lot of menus and options, list view might be the better choice. But if you're just looking for a specific option, icon view might be easier.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

  • List view is better - I don't know how many options were available on the S60 but the screen on the S62 isn't super large and for the number of list items we have on the initial Golf Menu, the icons would probably have to be rather small to all fit on the screen at once.  Take into account that some of the users of an S62 are also older (like myself) with reduced ability to see small icons and then there is also the need to accurately touch a small icon on the screen with fat fingers while actually out on the course.  My vote is for lists as is currently implemented.
