S62 Pulse Ox option shutting off after swim

I've discovered an issue with my S62 whenever I complete a lap swim (in the pool), the "Pulse Ox During Sleep" option gets turned off.  This happens every time I do a swim and requires me to manually turn that option back on (half the time I forget).  The Pulse Ox during sleep is a configurable option on the watch that should not be affected by doing any activity.  If for some reason the software has to turn it off when doing a swim, then it should turn it back on after completion.

I contacted Garmin and they just told me the standard issue "try a full reset of the watch".  That did not resolve the issue and I believe this to be a software bug.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Or can someone else confirm it exists by simply starting and stopping the "Pool Swim" app and then checking to see if their "Pulse Ox during sleep" option gets turned off?

  • The Pulse OX works by shining a light against your wrist.  When swimming, you now have a film of water that makes that reading meaningless so I'm guessing Garmin turns that whole feature off, and it probably isn't maintaining any feature sub-status while off, once you signal the end of the swimming activity the best that is done is to turn Pulse OX back on.

  • I understand how Pulse Ox works and it is fine if the software needs to turn it off for certain activities, however, it should be turned back on when that activity is completed.  The option to use Pulse Ox during sleep is a user defined configurable setting that gets set up once (either on or off) and should remain that way until the user changes it again.  This is a software bug that should be fixed.

  • As I figured, it was a software bug and they have now fixed it in firmware version 4.40.  The only frustrating thing is "Gary" who I worked with online insisted there was no bug.  He also insisted the S62 had to be connected to my PC to get any software updates (even though I was on the most current version at the time).  He was wrong on both these points.  My version of 4.40 came over the Garmin Express app on my phone via Bluetooth just the other day (I haven't connected my device to my PC in years).  After the 4.40 upload, my Pulse OX issue has been solved and works as expected.  Thanks to whoever actually researched and solved this issue.

Hopefully Garmin can find a way to get some better support people who don't walk users down the wrong path and provide incorrect information.  They need to make these watches and their support competitive with the Apple product line who continue to provide watches that can do everything and more than many of the Garmin products.
