System Software 4.00 - Added improved scoring user experience.

With the new System Software 4.00 update what is the "Added improved scoring user experience"

I played golf yesterday 20/01/2022 and the new update had been initiated however when I reached the green the usual change to the scoring that I would normally experience didn't activate.

What has changed to the scoring since the update, I have noticed that there is an icon now appearing in the field that would normally have the club selection (pen looking icon) which once selected brought the scoring facility to the screen.

Can you confirm this is the new format of scoring or should the auto change to scoring still be working?

  • Hi, yes you are correct in saying about automatically changing based on the proximity of the green and I can uderstand your point of view too. I must admit I have been so used to the watch automatically going into scoring mode when either close to or on the green that I suppose I have got used to it and always reminds you to score.

I have just finished 18 holes this morning and now I know I have to select the pen/pencil icon it wasn't so bad but if you forget to do your score there wasn't a reminder or vibration that would normally give you a prompt to score. Over time I suppose I will get used to actually selecting the icon and scoring but would have been nice to have been provided with the explanantion of the changes.

Another point to add, the watch does ask if you are scoring and provides the "X" or "Tick" to say yes or no and again would have expected it to be the auto change when close or on the putting green.

And finally the Club Selection has stopped working to monitor which club I used in the actual shot. Mighty frustrating when you have been able to select the club you have used after your shot only to disappear completely and no way of monitoring/looking back after your round to see clubs used.

Garmin you have failed me, and after spending out the money for a Garmin S62 and expecting the facilities mentioned, I am now very disappointed

  • Two more things unless I am mistaken.

    1. During a round when you press the top button and enter the menu. You now get a "View Green" option. Guess its to move the flag as before but accessed now by the menu. Wish they would properly explain these changes.

    2. What are the little dots at the top of the screen on each hole? Under the Par 3 (or 4 or 5) there are a series of dots. Some holes have one dot, others have 2 or 3. Is this the difficulty or something related to your handicap?

  • Just sorted the dots. Its related to your handicap and where your handicap is applied.

  • Thanks for the heads up on the dots, interesting as I hadn’t seen them. To be honest I haven’t set Handicap or Slope Index and assume if you set slope index you’d have to keep remembering to set for each course you play at.

Does anyone know if the handicap is set to WHS and changes according your score registered each time you play, if against WHS scoring?

  • , thank you for inquiring about the recent changes in system software 4.00.

In brief context, we had heard from customers that the score prompt was coming up at times when they still wanted to see the distances or the green view. This new solution gives users more flexibility for when they want to enter the score and that we still automatically bring it up when walking away from the hole.

  • Thank you for the brief explanation of the new scoring however over the last 2 days whilst playing golf I have left the scoring to see if the scoring would automatically come up and it doesn’t.

i can now fully understand the reasoning behind the new scoring facility on the Garmin S62 and now able to view yardage right upto and even on the green, must admit now having used the watch over the last week I can see the benefit.

I will be playing golf again tomorrow and will check and see if the auto scoring appears again when walking away from the previous green to the next tee however this didn’t work the past few days so won’t hold my breath.

  • Yes!!! I have the same problem and would like to go back to the original settings. I called Garmine and was told there was nothing I can do about it…please allow us to change this and have the option of scoring as I approach the green. The reminder vibration was great! I’m not sure why this was changed.

  • There must be years of request and suggestions from users posted here. So many great ideas passed to Garmin.

And this is what they decided was a good idea to change. Slight smile

  • Agree, I give up, can't see this change in the future.

Just such a shame that a good hardware product is so limited by poorly implemented and maintained software, but read in forums for other products that it is a similar story and many write that Garmin developers most likely never use their own products (or that is at least how it seems).

  • Thanks, had actually forgotten that. Fixed my immediate issue, now we just need to be able to edit a club and not the shot :-)
