S62 golf app vs Fenix 6x pro

Hi,

I’ve been golfing for a while with a Fenix 3 and a Fenix 5x, found the experience pretty basic, so thinking of upgrading the watch.  I had read somewhere that the programs on the two watches above (S62 and 6X Pro) are pretty much identical other than touch screen and a couple of tempo features, but I’ve learned it’s always best to ask the community before jumping considering the price tags involved.  The Fenix is alluring because of the ability to do mountain biking, swimming and running, but those aren’t broken on the 5x, so not a deal stopper…the s62 seems to be purpose built and while it may do running, that is close to it.

so, the question I am looking for I put on, while playing golf, is there any functionality that the S62 gives that the Fenix 6 pro model wouldn’t?

thanks for any help.  I’ve searched the forums (possibly poorly) and the web so know that a good faith effort was made to get to an answer myself first…

  • Unfortunately I have never owned a Fenix so can't compare the performance with the S62.  I do own the S62 and I think it is an excellent watch for golf.  Great battery life (10 days no GPS or 2.5 rounds of golf between charges).  Stat tracking, club tracking etc very good (only let down by the data manipulation available on Garmin Connect website). Screen large and clear and tracking for other sports acceptable.  Overall the S62 is an excellent golf accessory.

It may be that the Fenix has similar functionality but not owning the product, I couldn't tell.  Would downloading both user manuals and comparing functions help you make a decision?

  • I think the main thing you would be missing with the Fenix is the virtual caddie feature.  Learns how far you hit each club and after 5 rounds starts prompting you which club to hit based on your past shot history and what shot you are currently facing.  It works well in a very general way, based on your average club distance.  It struggles a bit factoring in wind or what kind of lie your ball is on.

On the flip side, you lose a ton of Fenix functionality for other activities.  The S62 has basic activities but not nearly the depth that the Fenix has.

  • Thanks to both of you for the feedback.  I have a lot to ponder!

  • This link may help:

Scroll down to the "Golfing features" section and you'll see the S62 has a few things not on the fenix 6. The most notable differences are what's lacking from the S62 as far as the other activities are concerned (running, biking, swimming, etc).  If you're only a golfer, that's not a big deal.

Basically, the S62 is Garmin's full-featured Golf wearable with a minimal amount of features for other stuff.  The fenix Forerunner devices are very robust multi-sport watches with a somewhat basic golf app.

    Hope this helps.  Good luck!
