Notifications ... possible cause ??

I like most on here have had the issue with notifications for a while now since purchase of this watch ,( as can be seen in my forum posts !! )  A possible cause that Garmin software engineers might like to look into is that I have found the following to be helpful :

The issue occurs randomly for no reason , can be days without an issue or daily ! Not aware of an issue till I notice a notifiacation on my phone that hasn't gone off on the watch !

Tried all sorts of 'fixes' suggested on here , eg off/on with bluetooth , o/off flight mode , re-power watch/phone etc etc ; but today I think I have found out the main 'culprit ' - its possibly related somehow to the Garmin Golf app !?

The other day playing golf and after I checked on the phone app for scores , performance etc and immediately after the watch stopped notifications !  Force stopped all 3 Garmin apps and it worked again .

Today ( no golf just in work !) and the notifications stopped !!   Force stopped the Connect app only and no joy , force stopped the Connect IQ app only and no joy , Force stopped the Garmin Golf app Oonly and hey presto the notifications worked again straight away !! Coincidence ? - I think not !!!

Please Garmin - look into this ASAP as this issue not being sorted is getting a joke now !!!

  • Update : notifications stopped again earlier today for no reason !! This time I just ‘force stopped ‘ the Connect app , it then said ‘ phone connected ‘ and notifications worked again .

I would summise  the issue is either software related or the watch hardware itself , in respect of the Bluetooth function .

Would appreciate a comment and feedback please from Garmin !

  • I continue to have same problem but when on my Samsung S9 and i force stop Connect, it never really shows that Connect has been stopped....I would expect that small icon to go from black to gray but it never does.  so I am not sure if it really ever gets forced stopped.

  • Same on my S20+.  But the watch does then say reconnected etc .  I found if force stop the Golf app alone it always works straight after .. It’s as if the issue is with the various Garmin apps and Bluetooth , as all the suggested ways to remedy have one thing in common ie the Bluetooth connection ??

  • For me this issue seems to come up whenever there is any temporary distance between my watch and my phone. If I temporarily leave my phone in another room it will stop receiving notifications. This blockage remains until I force stop the golf app. Seems like once the bluetooth connection between the phone and watch is broken the watch cannot re-establish it to receive notifications without first force stopping the golf app.

  • Yes same here , although it’s random as sometimes it does re connect and notifications work , I find going into flight mode then out also ‘ fixes it ‘ ie a manual Bluetooth reconnect

  • agreed, but it disconnects even if the ph and watch are close.  I have to open up the garmin app often to try to get it to reconnect,  ive deleted and reinstalled the garmin app on my iPhone and also the garmin express on my mac.  Problem continues.
