17 of 42 CT10 Sensors Not Working with S62

I'm on my third full set of CT10 sensors and each set has acted the same as the first.  All 14 sensors will pair with my S62 on initial set up.  All 14 sensors connect as intended for the first couple rounds of golf.  Then they start to drop like flies, one or two more drop out on a round, then one or two more on the next round, etc.  Then I return the set to Amazon and start this whole process over again.

Most of the failed sensors aren't being detected by the S62, but a few of them get detected then hang on the "Pairing Sensor" screen and never actually get paired to my watch.

I've replaced batteries, no change in behavior.  I've checked each new sensor's status and all the batteries are listed as "New."

I've been thinking it's the CT10s fault, but there's no way there's a nearly 50% failure rate on a $300 product, right?  I've tried changing batteries, soft reset of watch, hard reset of watch, disconnect and reconnect sensors, shine a flash light on the CT10 to wake them up thinking ambient light was too low several times and nothing works.  Once a sensor is dead I can't get it back.

Are 50% of CT10 sensors defective?  Am I just really really unlucky?  Or, is the problem not with the CT10s but with my S62 watch?  I have no idea how to figure that out or how to fix it.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

  • Glad to have joined this forum and it is my 1st day with my new S62 watch.  Haven't hit the links yet - tomorrow - but i did get an email from Garmin with a $75 savings on a full set of these sensors.  To be honest, I was tempted to hit the 'buy' button but after reading few of the reviews, i am very skeptical.  I look forward to seeing Garmin's response.

  • When you set up the sensors are all your other clubs in your golf bag?  If you have all the clubs out of the bag at the same time then all the sensors will be available to pair which can mess things up.

  • Thank you for the advice Dave, but this is not the case.  The first 42 pairings when the sensors are fresh out of the box have been smooth and successful.  Once they start going undetected by my S62 is when the non-recognition and pairing issues start.

  • Tim, when they work they're great and I really like using them.  However, they don't work and half the time I just have to answer the S62s club prompt like I didn't even have the sensors.  After three full sets of these things (soon to be a forth) and a ~50% failure rate, I certainly can't recommend these to anyone.  I'd really just rather have my $300 back then keep trying set after set just to have them fail again and again.

I love the S62 though, so you've made a good choice with that purchase.

  • Understood, I am not sure what the problem is then, it looks like you have tried the other options of factory reset of the watch etc.  Is it a genuine seller on Amazon, as there are a lot of fakes that make their way onto Amazon?

My watch came with just 3 sensors but I only use one on the putter which works quite well. I just get a prompt asking which club I used after each shot (which I reject if it was a poor shot therefore keeping the distances more representative) and having the one on the putter means I get prompted for the score when I walk to the next hole.

  • That's a very good question.  I didn't think about that, but I did order from "Amazon.com Services LLC" which I'm assuming is from Amazon themselves.  I'll have to keep this in mind next time though.  Thank you.

I really like the idea of rejecting the club selection after a poor shot so it doesn't mess up your club distances.  If I can't get a working set of CT10 sensors, I will definitely be doing that.  Thanks!

  • Dave, thanks for your honest assessment.  I used my S62 yesterday for 1st time and I love it.  It was very quick following a shot to tell it which club I hit and to move on to my next short.  While a sensor would be nice, the high price and performance concerns are steering me to shy away from acquiring any sensors at this time.  Does anyone know if other sensors available on the market are compatible with the S62?

  • I am not aware of any other sensors that work with the watch although you can buy a set of just 3 CT-10 for around £69.

  • Thanks.  I was researching the ARCCOS sensors as well and ARCCOS said not compatible but someone else said they do work with the S60 model. Their price, $179 for all 14 is much more reasonable - if they worked with Garmin.  Time will tell to see if ARCCOS makes modifications to them to be compatible.

  • Tim, if I remember correctly, the ARCCOS sensors require a yearly paid subscription.  I've heard good things about them but I wasn't willing to keep paying them for the use of their product.
