Steps weren't counted today while golfing

Golf today and showed 5+ miles. S62 didn't register any steps.

  • Are Golf Settings->Record Activity enabled and Watch Settings ->Activity Tracking both enabled.  Seems like some of the OOB default settings may not let things work they way we think they should.

  • Not an OOB issue. Seems to have lost functionality since 4.40 upgrade. Then again haven't golfed in a couple of months.

  • Might want to try a software update then - my watch is at 2.50 and GPS is at 4.50 and steps have been recorded for all my recent rounds, including my round this morning.

  • I've had the $499.00 Garmin Approach S62 for two days now.  I can't even believe what I'm seeing regarding how Garmin is compiling step counts.  I was seeing some extremely uneven step counts coming out of this expensive little piece of hardware and being an ex-IT professional i did what I've always done best.  Test!!!

I really can't believe, nor can I stomach, what I've found.  I have a very cheap FitBit that I used to wear on my wrist.  I took off the watch band and put it in my pocket.  It never missed a single step.  (This test is pretty much predicated on the fact that I golfed 18 holes on a golf course on which I am very much familiar with the normal eighteen hole step count...)  The FitBit didn't miss a single step.  The expensive Garmin stuttered all over the place.  I finally figured out why!!!

I'm not sure what the FitBit algorithm is doing... but as I stated... On my wrist... in my pocket... It just plain ALWAYS works.  The MUCH more expensive Garmin??? Not so much.  Know why?

I do... I know why!!!  The Garmin is wholly and completely utilizing the arm swing of the arm that the Garmin is strapped to.  If that arm ain't swingin'... You're NOT going to get the step count.  I'm pretty sure a Junior High School student could write the code to equate arm swing to steps...  On  a $500.00 piece of equipment this is what we rely on???   I mowed the lawn tonight and had the TEMERITY to keep both hands on the mower handle.  I lost over 2,000 steps on the Garmin that the cheap, wounded, little FitBit easily picked up...

Seriously Garmin???  THIS is how you're handling step counts?  On a $500.00 unit???  Shame on you people.. This is absolutely ridiculous... Seriously...
