Brightness / Colours

Hi, just got the approach s62 and I do find the screen a little dull and the colours don’t seem very bright either, especially comparing to the watch faces on connectiq.... I have it at 100% brightness too !!

Hopefully I’m doing something wrong ....

  • 100% brightness reflects when your backlight is on. Your display is not overly bright to give your watch a long battery life. When your watch is being used outdoors in direct sunlight, the display should be able to be read well. If you are concerned that there is a hardware issue for your display, I will be happy to look at picture examples. Please highlight my name and send me a private message with pictures of your backlight turned on and when the backlight is off. I can then compare your pictures to my own Approach S62.

  • whenever you take pictures it makes the screen look brighter than it actually is in real life.

  • If you are confident the new display is bad, please do not hesitate to return it while you are still within your retail/online vendor return period.

  • Hi.

I happen to have the same problem. With 100% brightness turned on as well.

The colors a very dull. Not vivid or clear at all.

For. Approx $700 CAD golf watch you would figure the resolution would be High Definition.

The sample pictures off the watch faces don't come close to the actual color after installation.

Are there any options fix this?

Can this be correct by a software upgrade patch?

  • I would need to see pictures to be able to confirm if there is a display defective issue. 99.9% of the time, your backlight brightness needs to be turned up. The natural display appearance is darker when inside but it is clearly visible when outside in direct sunlight due to the type of display and its technology.

There are a small handful of 'smart watches' available that are more watch computer like in their behavior but not always geared towards recording activities and having a detailed display of the metrics recorded such as what the Garmin Golf APP gives you or your Garmin Connect web account. Those beautiful high end OLED displays are expensive with their millions of colors in them and they drain your battery extremely quick.

In our Outdoor segment watches, we have thus far chosen to not put OLED displays in our watches since they would not only increase your purchase price but you also would not be able to golf more than one round in the same day without recharging your watch in between rounds.

As battery technology continues to improve, which has been happening at a quicker pace in the last 4 years, there will come a day that OLED displays will come down in price as they become more commonly used and the battery life won't be impacted so negatively if you are playing in a multiple round tournament.

Please feel free to highlight my name and send me a private message with display pictures if you are concerned there is an issue. I will be happy to compare your pictures provided to my own Approach S62.

  • I feel the same way about the watches clarity and brightness, or lack thereof. I did buy the watch for its Golf app, but also as a daily use watch, and I struggle to see the time of day, especially at night (!) when you have to physically touch the face or the button to see the time, and when you press the button, you get the "Play Golf " app appear first. I would be better perhaps if the time display would light up when the watch is moved up, like an apple wacht let's say. I know long   battery life is a nice feature, but practical usage should prevail here.

  • I completely agree. Brightness is at 100% and the colors are dull. looking at IQ i downloaded some that looked extremely bright and they are awful. Golf layout are muted also, nothing like the bright screens advertised. Very disappointed.
