Do you have a garmin account (connect.garmin.com) paired with the app?

I have Garmin connect installed and have no problems with either the connection or the sync. It is just Garmin Golf that will not sync
Sorry, I didn't explain my problem sufficiently in my initial text
Sometimes this happens to me as well. I fix it by going into settings then Bluetooth to make sure it’s connected and connect it if not. I’ll close Garmin Connect then reopen it. It’s always fixed that disconnect for me in the past.
Thanks for your advice vonbonds. Yesterday afternoon I decided to remove the device in the Golf app and then reinstall it. Previously I had just uninstalled the whole Garmin Golf application. At first I struggled to get the app to find the S62 but suddenly it did and when I clicked the sync now button it synced straight away. For the first time I didn't get the dreaded red warning sign. This morning I fired everything up and all is well. Not sure what I did but hopefully all will be good. Just the lockdown to end now so I can get on the course and try all the features. Thanks again for your suggestion, I have logged it just in case.
