S62 didn't count my steps during golf round

I played golf this weekend with my new S62 and it is the first time I walked with it.  My steps didn't register during the round.  I am not sure if it was a setting or if this is common.  But i want to get credit for those steps while playing!  I think I would have had at least 6,000 additional steps that day than my watch recorded!

  • I think you can manually add them. Every now and then the watch will have a hiccup, I just chalk it up to sh!t happens :). Overall my S62 has been perfect except for one day it didn’t want to record anything.

  • I've had the $499.00 Garmin Approach S62 for two days now.  I can't even believe what I'm seeing regarding how Garmin is compiling step counts.  I was seeing some extremely uneven step counts coming out of this expensive little piece of hardware and being an ex-IT professional i did what I've always done best.  Test!!!

I really can't believe, nor can I stomach, what I've found.  I have a very cheap FitBit that I used to wear on my wrist.  I took off the watch band and put it in my pocket.  It never missed a single step.  (This test is pretty much predicated on the fact that I golfed 18 holes on a golf course on which I am very much familiar with the normal eighteen hole step count...)  The FitBit didn't miss a single step.  The expensive Garmin stuttered all over the place.  I finally figured out why!!!

I'm not sure what the FitBit algorithm is doing... but as I stated... On my wrist... in my pocket... It just plain ALWAYS works.  The MUCH more expensive Garmin??? Not so much.  Know why?

I do... I know why!!!  The Garmin is wholly and completely utilizing the arm swing of the arm that the Garmin is strapped to.  If that arm ain't swingin'... You're NOT going to get the step count.  I'm pretty sure a Junior High School student could write the code to equate arm swing to steps...  On  a $500.00 piece of equipment this is what we rely on???   I mowed the lawn tonight and had the TEMERITY to keep both hands on the mower handle.  I lost over 2,000 steps on the Garmin that the cheap, wounded, little FitBit easily picked up...

Seriously Garmin???  THIS is how you're handling step counts?  On a $500.00 unit???  Shame on you people.. This is absolutely ridiculous... Seriously...

  • My vivioactive 3 recorded steps as long as my arm was swinging.  Pulling a golf cart with my watch hand, steps wouldn't register.  Just bought an s62, steps won't register.  Using the Crystal watch face, that face should show steps.  It won't even with free swinging arms.  Any ideas?

Solved this issue in Garmin Connect.  Need to change from vivioactive 3 being the default device.  Works after selecting s62 as the default device.
