Having weather show on watch face (API key, OWM widget)

I really like this watch face and downloaded it. M

To display weather the instructions say:

This watch face need your own API key for weather (for free on openweathermap.com). After installation you can probably see text "NO GPS" or "NO DATA". If you see "NO GPS" so you must go outside and for a while turn on the GPS. Then you will see "NO DATA" and if you have active Garmin Connect Mobile app in your phone so you must only wait for first dowload - it take aproximately 20 minutes.

I think I've done this correctly, and I also downloaded the OWM widget. https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/6a740b9d-7bba-4ed8-bedd-2cabaef4bdcf The watch face still doesn't show the temp and the OWM widget doesn't show the weather. Seems there MAY be some issues based on forum research but I'm not 100% certain. If weather functionality indeed works I'm looking for as simple step-by-step instructions as possible. Thank you.

I have the exact same issue. I tried copying the API and it doesn't work. The app worked well with my fenix 5x without me even having to enter or copy anything. Seems weird.

Did you copy the API key into the widget settings within Garmin IQ Connect on your phone?

I did some digging and found a solution. I noticed a missing API key when I plugged in my watch to my computer. I think I opened the widget (I found it by chance). I decided to google it and came across this site: https://openweathermap.org/api They provide API keys, you just need to register and then click generate token. I tried it out and it worked :D You just need to provide your email address to register - nothing else. Hope that helps!

I just installed a 'clockface' mentioning 'No API key present'.
What to do?

Visit openweathermap.com and create a FREE account. Just username, password, mail.
Go to the mail you receive directly after creation and confirm your mailaddress before you continue
On the website click on your accountname (top-right) and click on 'My APIS'. Copy the key (select and copy)
Connect your Garmin device with your laptop and open Garmin Express
Choose to manage your apps/widgets and find your clockface - there is always a settings button (three dots ...)
One of the settings is the API key, paste it from your clipboard here and save.
sync your watch
It might say - waiting for weather or NO GPS data. If that's the case, go outside and as soon as GPS signal has been detected it's fixed.
It might be necessary to keep your Connect app always open in the background and enable it to update on the background.

remark: it might -after creation - take some time (some hours) before your API key is active. You'll get an email about this from openweather.

PS: Small update - I have a Garmin Vivoactive 4 and had the watchface 'Chariot B-Shock' installed. This one needed API Key. Yes, it works like written here above. But there is an alternative watchface called 'Chariot J-Shock' where the weather part only works for Garmin. No API Key needed. I de-installed the B-shock and installed the J-shock. Works even better! And doesn't ask the app to be opened all the time (= better for the battery life)

Had this set up and working fine with a different watch face from the same developer, along with the OWM widget. Then last week it stopped updating on the watch face and the widget is blank with "Timeout" error msg. I've tried generating new keys within my OWM account but none working. Interestingly, I previously had the iphone permissions for Garmin Connect location set to only when using app; and when I changed to always, the apis both updated. Then didn't change again after that.
