Is Approach S62 worth the upgrade?

Hi, I am currently using Garmin Fenix 5x Plus and in love with the watch and its various capabilities. I often found myself digging for stats and metrics while playing a round or two of golf every week. I am thinking about buying Approach S62 but at the same time don't want to retire my Fenix 5x. I find myself in predicament and keep on wondering if Garmin Approach S62 worth the upgrade?? or should I wait for Garmin Fenix new line up with few more Golf capabilities.

  • I don't have Fenix 5x Plus so I cannot comment directly on to your question but what it is worth I can tell you my opinion. For playing golf I believe S62 is almost perfect. I have used S60 for over three years playing more then 100 rounds and i loved that watch. I have added  set of CT10 to help with shot detection and I learnt how to work around deficiencies that S60 had. One of my main problem was battery live on S60. I had to remember to charge it before I was planning to play round of golf as it depleted fairly quick. sometimes I was playing 27 holes in one day and in those cases the watch could not handle it unless I used portable battery to charge it between rounds. Then S62 came out and I decided to upgrade. And very quickly I realized that S62 is a big step up from S60. Battery life is on different level all together. For 18 holes it takes around 30% to 40% of battery live. I play 27 holes a week and I just need to charge the watch once a week and I wear it day at night to use for other measurements that come with this watch including sleep, hiking, heart beat and PulseOX. For golf I use virtual caddy a lot and I like it. For my distance stats it uses info from S62 as well from my round I played using S60.  Also the wind direction and strength measurements is very useful and my friends always asking me about it when we play.

  • Whilst the S62 does support other sports it might not be to the same level as the Fenix.  You would need to check the specs to see if the S62 supports other activities to the level you use in the Fenix. That said, the S62 is very good for golf and definitely worth upgrading from the S60.
