S60 problems

Hi Guys. I recently bought a Garmin Approach S60 for the advanced golf features it has. (only to see it's with the memberships feature)

Now, After owning the first device for 6 weeks, it had given me some problems already. From not starting up without an external power source to where it shows it is charging when on my arm and nowhere near a charger. There was a few times where the device would be like a button is stuck. Garmin replaced it with a new device and it went well for 1 week. Today it started again with the acting like a button is stuck.

My frustration is the worry about when the next issues will happen again. It is currently on Software version 8.10. I use it daily and then for golf on the weekends.

Does anyone else experience this with the S60?

  • Yes, even the replacement S60 watch from Garmin (at further cost, and inconvenience) has just died, and will not charge (tried everything!). Despite its hefty cost, the S60 is not fit for purpose.

  • If the S60 is not powering on, then the following steps must be performed:

    1. Connect the watch to home computer via USB.
    2. If you do not see the Triangle logo appear on the screen, press and hold the middle button on the side of the watch for 20 seconds > Release the button > Then disconnect and reconnect the cable and you should then see the Triangle logo appear on the screen.
    3. If you still do not see the watch powering on, clean the four metal dots on the charging port located on the back of the watch with rubbing alcohol and a q tip. Then reconnect and see if that results in the watch charging.
    4. If step 3 does not work, inspect the end of the charging cable that connects to the back of the watch. Make sure that the four pins in the connector end of the cable are all sticking out the same length, are equally spaced, and ensure none of the pins look pushed in further than the others. If they do, then the charging cable needs replaced.
