System Software 8.10 Device descriptor failed

When I connect to my laptop to update my watch, Garmin connect can not find my watch.

The connection to the PC seems fine but the device manager reports my watch as "Unkown USB Device - Device descriptor failed" (checked by removing/reconnecting the watch)

I have rebooted both the watch and the PC. 

Update to 8.10 was via bluetooth/Connect app.

    Hello, do you get similar issues related to the USB when other electronics are plugged in? I assume plugging into a different USB port on the computer makes no difference? Do you have any way of checking the Device Manager on your computer for updates to the Driver in question?

    Yes I have legacy devices Windows refuses to find drivers for that show as no USB descriptor.

    Yes I tried all the USB ports - same result.

    Yes tried looking for updates - found none.

    What i did do, remove the Garmin USB drivers, Remove Garmin Express.

    Reinstall Garmin Express 7.13.1.0 (which reinstalls the USB drivers).

    All is well and is reconnected. 

    Could it be that in auto updating the USB drivers didn't update (or haven't been updating) and that caused it to fail to recognize the device after updating to System Software 8.10?

    I haven't heard of anything that specific. There appear to be a lot of troubleshooting steps for this issue on the computer side after doing an Internet search of the message. If you have another computer available, that may be good way to rule out the computer as the culprit.

    Refreshing the program and the specific USB drivers should be step 1.  You are ensuring you have the latest version of those files.  Ensuring you have the latest version of Express and the USB drivers makes sure you have the correct specific files to connect to the device.

    Without doing that you will chase your tail looking for answers.....

    During updates the OS may change or modify files that cause an issue.
