Notifications stop working on Approach S60 with Android 10 Sony phone

Hi,

I've having a very simialr problem to this one that has been close

The Notifications seem to work for a few days and then they stop, I think it coincides with when I charge the watch but I can't be sure. I have been on Webchat with a couple of people to get the initial problem fiexed, which involved removing all Garmin apps from the phone and resetting the watch. I'm reluctant to do this each time the Notifications stop working.

Approach S60 settings

  • Do Not Disturb - Off
  • Notifications During Activity / Not During Activity - All On

Phone settings

  • Notification Access - On
  • All Applications - On
  • Phone Permissions - All On except External Storage

The Approach is syncing activity / sleep data with the phone so the bluetooth connectivity is working.

Has anyone else had this problem with Android and the Approach S60 device?

  • Yup.  Just coming to look to see if there is a fix.  Seems to be happening since upgrading to Android 11.  I can fix it with hard reboot of the watch and disconnect/reconnect bluetooth on the phone.  Two days later it quits again.

    Have been through everything on the watch and phone, all the guides on this site, and notifications are all on but nothing on watch.

  • Hey, I just went through this guide and found 4 old fit files which I removed and, notifications started working without other changes.

  • I'm having the same problem with Android Samsung S10 phone. SMS messaging notifications drop off after a couple of days.

    I am sorry you are experiencing incoming smart notification issues. Since the Approach S60 does not directly pair through the Golf APP, it means having multiple Approach S60 customers reporting a smart notification issue in this thread, requires further examples that are needed for the issue to be looked into further.

    If you continue to have your incoming smart notifications stop with the details that Richard provided when he started this thread, and even though you can resolve the issue it keeps coming back within 2-3 days, please highlight my name and send me a private message. I will be reaching out to you directly to gather more information that our engineers will need. Thank you!

  • Thanks for the confirmation that the issue has been identified. I'm happy to test once the updated version is released. Is there an approximate date for release?

  • wondering if a fix was ever found? 

    I posted a pretty poor review on Bestbuy and Garmin reached out to me about it. I exchanged about 5 highly detailed emails about how I came to finding out what I think the problem was and some of the things I did to deliberately cause the problem.

    The only way I could fix was I had to remove the watch from Garmin connect and add it back. Garmin was no help and didnt address any of the problems as I explained to them.... they did offer to do a call, but timing never worked out. They eventually stopped responding to my emails.

    I found that anytime my bluetooth was turned off (phone restart, or toggle the bluetooth) then I would stop getting notifications and the only fix was a remove and add watch.
