Certain rounds massively inflate my Garmin handicap.. but I shot lower than my handicap?

Why does my Garmin handicap jump from 12.7 up to 23 or something when I add certain rounds? It looks like any rounds that have a manual entry in them, exaggerate the handicap? I might be wrong, but it looks like Garmin don't want manual entries to affect handicap. But the problem is these are correct and valid scores. The watch did something wrong (or maybe I did) and I had to correct the score on my watch, but then when I go back to Garmin connect my handicap has jumped from 12.7 to something ridiculous, but if I exclude that round then it is ok. It has done it on several rounds previously..... Good scores (with +11) can;t be used because the inflates the handicap too much?

  • Hi,

where do you see this? In the Garmin Connect app? If it is there, then you see a handicap mix of 9-holes and 18-holes rounds. I'm saving all rounds after 9 holes, also if I play 18 holes. Old complete 18 holes I tried to mark as "remove from statistics" but that does not work.

Another problem is, from which tee you play, yellow, blue or red. At moment we have here in Netherland winter-tees, they are between yellow and red, so I choose red tees on  my S60, but the statistics always calculate them as yellow tees. But now the new WHS is starting ( at 1. of March, when the qualifying period is starting) and we will see, how Garmin will implement this ...

  • Hi. I see it in the farming golf app and online in the dashboard. Under performance stats you get a handicap. This is helpful for me as I don’t have a real handicap. So new rounds should impact it but it is pointless if it inflates to 23 after I shoot 11 over. I have to exclude those rounds from performance stats to get a real handicap and the only thing I can think of if it was manually corrected. If you enter a whole round manually it does the same thing but if you play a correct round and enter the figures as you go when prompted it doesn’t inflate your handicap. This is amvery poor as my Harmon watch sometimes fails to ask for the final score (if it thinks I am not on the green) and I have to manually enter it???

  • Hi,

I do not trust the handicap in the performance stats, I do not use it. I have now handicap 23,9 and stats shows me 18,5 ...

I've set in my S60 handicap 24 so it shows nearly correct the additional shots I have in the score table with black dots and also on my S60. I check my extra shots via our playing handicap table (first 9 holes winter tee red: 8 shots) and during the round I fill in the shots per hole on my S60. I use only strokeplay, that's enough for me. At the end I know, if I did the round (9 holes) with 42 shots, it is 6 over par and 8 - 6 = 2 under my playing handicap, so my handicap lowers ...

But at moment we have her winter tees and no qualifying. With the new WHS it will all change ... at the end, I count my shots and my S60 shows me the distance to the flag, that's enough for me.

  • Thanks for the responses Gerd_NL. But I am struggling to see the point in posting this on here if Garmin have no interest in it? It has happened again. I shot a +6 on the front 9 and a +5 on the back 9 and this made my handicap 23.2 (up from 12.7) it is an unusable handicap if it does this? I can understand if they believe I have cheated. But I haven;t thse are two genuine 9 hole rounds.??? GARMIN please get in touch and tell us why or how this has happened? And what can I do to make the data valid and usable for my Garmin Handicap?

  • Hi,

don't worry ... I use the S60 only for stroke play, if you use your handicap and it changes, you have then every time to adjust it in the Golf app. If I play a qualification, I have to use a paper card and a marker, who checks my shots.

The S60 is fine for the distances, to add manually the shots and get the pop up messages ...
