2nd S60 malfunctioning with same problem with charging port

My first S60 was replaced after it was failing to connect for charging and failing to be recognized by PC and Garmin Express. Now replacement watch is beginning to show same symptoms. When plugging USB cable in to rear port on watch it sometimes fails to make connection. gentle movement of cable near port can sometimes get a connection established for charging. Getting a connection such that PC and Garmin express picks up the watch is even more hit and miss. I will take this one back as well since still within 1 year warranty. Based on just this experience the charging port seems a real weakness i design and longevity. Pay $700 for something that last 12 months!

I see the S62 has same charging port.

wireless charging and connectivity would be an improvement to robustness of device.

  • I am sorry you have had issues with the charging connection on the back of your Approach S60. Thank you for your wireless charging suggestion. I will gladly forward it on.

  • I have had problems with the watch disconnecting when connected to Garmin Express; I found wiping the connector before connecting seemed to help.  I assume there is a build up of sweat, skin and whatever that results in a dodgy connection.

  • Hi Dave

will make sure their clean and see how it goes for a while

    cheers

  • I've had the same problem from beginning of using my S60. The charging is very unreliable and you need to monitor the watch to be in charging mode. Slight change of watch position connects/disconnects charging.

I have cleaned the contacts and I just bought new charging cable. Fit with new cable is better but the symptoms still remain.

Also the percentage of battery seems to grow towards 100% but reality is different. I have faced a couple of times fully discharged battery shortly after charging to 100%.

I am very frustrated with this "high end product".

  • Clean down the side of the pins at the connector. Mine did the same thing. I use a Pin or something pointed and a thin piece of cloth. The disconnecting from Garmin I fix by making sure / certain the watch and cable never move once connected. The connection seems better on the S62, more of a click as it connects. I also bought some of those plastic port covers from someone on ebay. Stops the port getting dirty as quickly

  • Thanks for the tip. I've cleaned the pins with wooden toothpick several times and sometimes it seems to help. I'm sure that the connector on the watch is somehow defective (too deep or contacts faulty). I made a complaint to the shop where I bought it and I am now waiting for Garmin's reply. Watch is still under guarantee.

  • I have the exact same problems with my S60!  Wont charge or be recognized by PC when connected.  Very frustrating.

  • Finally I received new (refurbished) S60 thru the retail shop I bought it from. Everything is working fine now.

  • Chris I am thoroughly disappointed as I have the same loose charging and highly unreliable charging system.

A fairly new watch rendered useless due to poor design and below standard product.

Doing your brand a huge disfavor
